Moisturising In The Monsoons
Just because the humidity in the air has gone up, doesn’t mean that your skin is hydrated. We show you how to keep your skin supple and nourished this season.

In winters, you keep it moisturised; in summers you keep it toned…what do you do in the rains? Taking care of your skin in quirky weather can be a tiresome business. You may enjoy getting soaked in the impromptu showers, but don’t let your skin suffer due to your callousness.

Rules for hydration

(See Beauty Kit for recommendations).
Monsoon can be deceptively dehydrating. Remember all the moisture is outside, and not under your skin. So, here are some things you should keep in mind this season:

  • Don’t leave your wet face untended. Along with the water droplets, your skin’s natural moisture will evaporate too. Keep wipes or napkins handy and gently dab your face dry.
  • As your skin gets wets and dries up again, it loses more moisture than it normally would. Hence, you need to replenish it effectively. Don’t leave home without moisturising your skin and a bottle of moisturiser in your bag so that you can moisturise your skin every time you get wet.
  • Light lotion-based moisturisers are best for the monsoon season.
  • Serums with lightening agents will not only moisturise your skin, but also add a glow to your face.
  • If you tend to get wet in the rains often, then stick to non-water based moisturisers.
  • For a regular day, a water-based moisturiser should work just fine.
  • Don’t let clouds dictate the use of sunscreen. Sun or no sun, don enough sunscreen as protecting your skin against the UV rays is half the battle won.
  • Team up your moisturising process with a proper cleansing-toning routine. Make sure the toner you use is alcohol-free, as increased humidity can lead to exposed pores.
  • Go gentle on your skin and opt for light make-up, if you must.
  • Salads soaked in boiling water, vegetable soups and plenty of water are some of the things you must include in your diet this season to beat the camouflaged dehydration... and not to mention your regular dose of beauty sleep.
