Gen Z TikTokers claim that side parts and skinny jeans are lame, but millennials aren’t having it! The simple claim from a Gen Z TikToker — "Prove me wrong, but I don't think there is a single person who looks better with a side part than they do a middle part,” prompted the #MiddlePartChallenge to differentiate it from the modern middle part. Yep, as soon as the trend went viral, millennial TikTokers went into overdrive, claiming that while the middle part has taken over contemporary hairstyling trends, the side-part is still a fresh and fashionable look.

We are fans of both styles. But as millennials who have grown up rocking the side-part, this claim does not sit well with us. So we decided to present some chic side-parted hairstyles to prove our point. And yes, we are looking at you, Gen Z, to look beyond the middle-parted buns and braids and give these a try instead…

While centre-parting will help you bring a lot of uniformity and sharpness to your hair look, it is the messy, asymmetrical vibe of the side-parting that we so love. Work in some feathery and fluffy waves in your hair and bring it to one side from the front. The hairstyle also adds extra volume to your mane and makes it look so romantic.

Back in the late 2000s, us millennials only had Orkut and Myspace’s outlet to share all cold things from our life. Trust us when we say that this cutesy bun was on the display picture of fashion girls at one point or another. And why not? It is totally adorable, uber-feminine, and so easy to pull off!

Side-braids are kind of a staple in the Indian hairstyling scene. Our mothers wore them, and so did we. A slight upgrade to the look is to keep the side parting but tie the braid at the nape of your neck to make it look a lot cleaner. Millennial icon Selena Gomez agrees, and so we do not need to work too hard to prove our point here.

Hair accessories are often rendered useless and just for show in middle parts, but accessorising a side-parting is the real deal! This classic headband hairstyle style inspired by the 60s is timeless and will make you look like a million bucks.

A legit 90s trend has made a comeback in the 2020s; this high ponytail is an influencer fave right now. The deep side part in the front adds a lot of drama to the otherwise soft hair look.
