Mr. Jovita George (no, we haven’t made a mistake here) is one of the most-loved Indian vloggers, and we know why. She makes some seriously fun videos on fashion, beauty and travel, and she’s relatable AF. But more than anything else, the dusky influencer makes Indian girls everywhere want to love their own skin tone!

We had a chance to interact with Jovita at the recently concluded Lakmé Fashion Week Winter Festive 2019, and we jumped at the opportunity to ask her for the makeup tips and tricks she swears by. What she revealed left us gobsmacked in the best way ever! Take a look at 5 makeup rules Jovita wants you to know.

Tip #1: It’s really important to match your foundation to your skin tone

Tip #1: It’s really important to match your foundation to your skin tone

Jovita says, “Make sure that your foundation is not too light because we have a tendency to pick a lighter shade. The best way to get your foundation shade right is to test it on your neck or your chest. So whatever colour your chest and neck is, get that shade. It needn’t necessarily be your face shade. This is the best way to ensure that you have an even toned complexion. This, I promise, is the shade that looks most attractive on you.”

Tip #2: Don’t be afraid to wear a little blush

Tip #2: Don’t be afraid to wear a little blush

Jovita’s Instagram page is the perfect testimony to her unbridled love for blushed out cheeks. She says, “Do not be afraid to apply a little bit of blush, because a blushing cheek is instantly going to brighten up your face. It just looks so pretty!” She further goes on to say, “Pick any shade you prefer – a coral, a peach or a pink – and apply it to the apples of your cheeks and blend it out to the outsides of your face.”

Tip #3: Do not apply powder all over your face

Tip #3: Do not apply powder all over your face

Jovita suggests that it is a bad idea to apply powder all over your face, and this, according to us, is super interesting. “If you have a really oily face, then yes, you may need to apply powder all over. But if you have normal, sensitive or dry skin, strategically apply your powder just where you tend to crease or where you tend to get oily. For normal skin, apply a little bit under your eyes where we all have those fine lines, around your smile lines because we tend to crease there, and a little bit on your forehead because we are expressive. These are the only places you need to apply powder, and not pack it on, all over your face.

Tip #4: Start loving your skin tone

Tip #4: Start loving your skin tone

“This is the most important tip for girls out there. We have to love our skin tone no matter what it is. It can be fair, medium, deep, deep dark; you could even be green in colour, but you better start loving your skin tone. Because there is just one of you, and that’s who you are. Believe me when I say this, you are beautiful and exotic, so don’t try to change your colour with makeup or anything else. Just love yourself!

Tip #5: Contouring does not make you look darker

Tip #5: Contouring does not make you look darker

“There is a misconception that contouring your face makes you look dark. What contouring does is, if you have a slightly chubbier face, it’s going to give you a little bit of dimension, like Kareena Kapoor Khan’s chiselled cheekbones! I mean who doesn’t want that, right? Additionally, contouring is going to give you a spotlight or a ring light effect. If you slightly darken the perimeter of your face, and apply a brightening concealer to the centre of your face, it’s like as though you have ring light on your face at all times. You’re just going to glow.”
