Most die-hard makeup enthusiasts like us always count on a bunch of high-quality makeup brushes and our fingers to achieve a flawless base. But not too long ago, something radically changed the makeup game for good and helped us flaunt the most seamless finish. The beauty Gods finally heard our prayers and introduced us to makeup sponges!
If there is one thing we all beauty lovers have in common, it is the appreciation for beauty hacks. And this is, especially, true when it comes to cleaning our beloved egg-shaped makeup sponges that might be packed to the brim with germs. We could regularly replace the sponges, the minute they look a little worse, but the cost adds up!
So, it's only natural that we got excited when the internet started talking about a way to refresh and clean your makeup sponges. And fortunately, the results were pretty glorious.
If you're a kitchen freak, you probably already know that microwaving a sponge is the easiest way to clean and disinfect it. So, to benefit all our lazy makeup lovers everywhere, we have put together an easy-to-follow 5 step guide to achieve that spotless makeup sponge.
- Grab your unclean makeup sponges
Your sponges can get pretty dirty due to the foundation and liquid highlighters you may use, and getting it all off can be challenging. It’s also possible that your shiny sponges may look spotless on the outside, but are still packed with dirt and grime on the inside. So pick out all your dirty makeup sponges and put them together in a bowl.
- Grab your soap
Take a bottle of shampoo or a body wash, and squirt some of it into the bottom of a microwave-safe container. Next, fill up the container with water and give the liquid a good mix.
- Put your makeup sponge in the soapy water and heat it on high in a microwave
Place the dirty makeup sponge (only one at a time) inside the container with the soapy water, and keep it in the microwave for about one minute. However, keep in mind to never put your sponges without the cup in the microwave, or they will melt.
- Take your sponge out
Let the water cool for a minute before you try to take out your makeup sponge or you'll burn your hand. Next thing, squeeze the water out of the makeup sponge and rinse it under a tap until the water runs clear.
P.S.: If your beauty blender comes out looking only a tad cleaner, repeat the entire process one more time.
- Our final thoughts
Not only is this a quick and great hack to clean the makeup out of your dirty sponges, but the process also disinfects them — which your skin will surely thank you for.
