It’s Halloween time again and if you, like many people we know, are already spooked by the fact that you have nothing to wear to the Halloween party, we’re here to help. Well, whether or not you end up looking scary, the idea is to dress dramatic and look fun. Here are some DIY character costume ideas to dress you good and spooky for the dreary day…
Edward Scissorhands

Edward Scissorhands

Don’t we just love Scissorhands for his razor sharp persona that he balances with that soft-core, super adorable character? Well, he sure is and he isn’t even that difficult to replicate. Here is how you can replicate this look without much ado.

Make up

Edward’s make up is pretty easy to ace. Spiked, ruffled hair, white washed face with exaggerated eye sockets that you can make with eye shadow.

Costume

Scissorhands is mostly dressed in all-black attire with hints of metallic work all over but you can also opt for a simple black trouser and white shirt with suspenders.

Now for the most important part, you can simply use black gloves and fix in them some butter knives so you don’t end up hurting anyone. For a cheaper alternative you can even opt for cardboard and stick foil on it.

Red Queen

Red Queen

Like most of Tim Burton’s characters, Red Queen is pretty OTT in her attire and speech which makes her just the kind of character you want to replicate for Halloween.

Make up

To ace her make up simply draw a Minnie Mouse hair line with a lip liner and buy a massive readymade red wig, which you will need to fix along the drawn hairline. Paint your face with the lightest and the white most shade of foundation that there is and draw on some really high, dramatic eyebrows. Finish the look with bright blue eye shadow and red heart lips.

Costume

For the costume you can wear a black puff sleeved blouse over a white collar shirt and team it with a red skirt. If your black shirt isn’t already adorned in gold embroidery then don’t forget to embellish the shirt with some golden paper and decorate the skirt with golden coloured hearts with black backgrounds.

Cruella

Cruella

Cruella is probably the easiest and most fun look to replicate with her black maxi dress and an exaggerated white coat. Plus it will have maximum impact.

Make up

All you need is to use some bright green shadow with kohl applied all along your brow bone and some really dramatic eye lashes. Raise your brows high and paint your lips wide and bright red. Obviously you can’t miss the most important Cruella feature which is the black and white hair divided with a mid-parting.

Costume

Her costume isn’t the most difficult to attain. Wear a sleeveless black maxi dress with an oversized white coat, red gloves and red heels. Tada, there you have aced the Cruella look.

Corpse Bride

Corpse Bride

While Corpse Bride’s make up is not be the easiest to ace she is most certainly one of the most sought after Halloween looks you will ever wear.

Make up

You will need to paint your face off-white and then paint your entire eye sockets with a bright shade of white to ace this look. Draw a black outline around your eyes and give yourself some dramatic lashes that will do justice to your already dramatic eyeballs. Make sure you replicate the tiny details from the Corpse Bride look. Paint your hair green with some poster paint or temporary spray and voila! you’ve aced the look. You can also give both your lips a stitch design and smudge the kohl for dramatic effect.

Costume

The Corpse Bride costume is basically a bridal outfit with some dramatic twists here and there. You can choose to play around with the veil or not.

Dorothy Gale

Dorothy Gale

An adolescent heroine from the wonderland of Oz, Dorothy is another very good Halloween costume idea to replicate.

Make up

Well, there is next to no makeup when it comes to replicating the Dorothy look but it is important to get the center parting and the two braids right with the quinessential white bows.

Costume

A blue checked tunic and a Victorian white puff sleeve blouse is all you really need to don the Dorothy look. Add details to this attire with red Mary Jane shoes and blue ribbons.
