The Best H&M x Designer Collaborations so far
H&M, the mighty fashion brand opened its doors to Mumbai for the first time this past weekend, and it’s been all over the news. Fans crowded in, camped out, queued up for up to 30 hours till they could get their hands on some fine H&M merchandise (and be the first ones amongst their friends to flaunt it). Clearly, H&M’s been quite the craze. But why though? What is it about this brand that evokes such a cult following? Here are a few details…

First things first, H&M is a Swedish multinational company that is currently the biggest rival to everyone’s other favourite fast-fashion brand, Zara. But what distinguishes H&M from other brands are its unique designer collaborations that routinely allow shoppers to experience a touch of high fashion at a reasonable price. Here is a list of some of the best collaborations that may have taken months to plan and execute but took only a few of hours to sell out…

H&M x Karl Lagerfeld

H&M x Sonia Rykiel

H&M’s first ever designer collaboration with the fashion mogul Karl Lagerfeld in 2004 was a capsule collection of 30 pieces meant for men and women. Having been sold out within minutes of its launch, this debut collection paved the way for many other future collaborations.

H&M x Versace

H&M x Sonia Rykiel

This collection was typical Versace, not meant for the faint-hearted. With excitement levels soaring through the roof, the collection did justice to eager fans who had camped outside the store the night before the launch.

H&M x Roberto Cavalli

We know you’re already thinking leopard prints and zebra stripes in silhouettes that leave little to the imagination. Well, we don’t blame you because this collab was everything glitz and glam crafted for everyone who loves experimenting with fashion.

H&M x Balmain

H&M x Sonia Rykiel

When you have models like Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner dancing in campaign videos, it’s no surprise this particular collaboration became the most successful tie-up H&M ever had. One look at it and you’ll know all that that went into making it so Balmain-esque.

Brights, stripes and everything nice, meant for the jumper-loving teenager in you. Getting Sonia on board was one of H&M’s ways of reaching out to a broader audience, especially emoji-eyed fan girls who couldn’t afford Sonia’s runway collections just yet.

Word on the block: H&M’s next venture with Kenzo is set to release in November this year.
