A sneak peek into Monisha Jaisingh’s Lakmé Fashion Week W/F 2018 Grand Finale Collection

Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2018 is all set to kick-start on the 22nd of August and we can’t contain our excitement for the five day fashion extravaganza!

As we—fashion minions—gear up for the country’s biggest fashion event; the fashion industry itself is buzzing with utmost excitement. A week ahead of the Lakmé Fashion Week; in a customary preview event; Monisha Jaising, the Lakmé Absolute Grand Finale Designer for Winter Festive 2018, unveiled her finale Collection! Obviously then, the fashion frenzy at the preview event was palpable and team BeBeautiful was present in full force to witness the unveiling.

About the much awaited preview, Ashwath Swaminathan, Head of Innovations, Lakmé said—“Every season, our endeavor has been to introduce new beauty trends that complement and celebrate Indian women. We are excited to collaborate with Monisha to see her interpretation of this season’s beauty theme of Shades of a Diva, in a never-seen-before way on the ramp.”

Post the unveiling, we caught up with Monisha Jaising herself and quizzed her about her upcoming collection, the finale, fashion trends and all things beauty. Excerpts from the interview below….

BB: You are all about being bold and glamorous.

BB: What does the beauty theme of the season; Shades of a Diva mean to you?

MJ: I look at the Shades Of A Diva as the moods of a diva and my collection this year is inspired by the theme. I look at this diva as an influencer in society, someone people look up to and someone people like to copy. So this diva is basically a trend setter. And this entire collection is about her being a trendsetter, wherever she goes and whatever she does.

BB: You are all about being bold and glamorous.

BB: Considering your signature style is effortless glamourhow will we see your design philosophy blend with the season’s theme Shades of a Diva? How will the two transpire in your collection?

MJ: My signature style is effortless, laid back glamour and that is exactly what this collection is all about. It is glamorous but it is effortless glamour. It is not put on glamour. It’s the kind of glamour that becomes a part of you and that is how a diva wears glamour. She wears it as second skin, it comes naturally to her and that’s what this collection is all about.

BB: You are all about being bold and glamorous.

BB: Given the theme this year explores the many Shades of a Divawhat are the beauty/makeup looks you are looking at for your show this season?

MJ: In terms of makeup we have the Lakmé team and they are the pioneers of makeup in this country. So working with them will be great because I have seen their entire range and I am sure their new range is also going to be beautiful. I’m very excited to work with them as a partner because I know that all their new lip shades work very well with the shades of my clothing.

BB: You are all about being bold and glamorous.

BB: You just unveiled a few garments from your finale collection and we see you have worked with colours like lilacs, fuschias and teals. Tell us about the colour pallette of your collection?

MJ: The colour palette for this collection is actually a very wide spectrum of colours. We have cooler sorbet colours like lilacs, and we also have the more fierce electric colours like fuschia, blue and teal. So like I said my collection is a wide spectrum of colours but everything works very well together and is in perfect synergy to the theme.

BB: You are all about being bold and glamorous.

BB: What beauty and fashion trends do you foresee this season?

MJ: I see a lot of colour coming in this season and I think navy and grey is going to be thrown out. So I think this season will see a lot of colour with the sexy black to go with.

BB: You are all about being bold and glamorous.

BB: You are all about being bold and glamorous. But Indian women have taken a while to get bold with their beauty and makeup. Do you think glamorous and bold beauty trends have finally arrived in India?

MJ: I think the Indian woman has always been glamorous. Whether she is wearing a sari or a kurta. This is just a new, more contemporary approach to clothing and I think the Indian woman is definitely ready for it. I see the Indian youngsters around who are so willing to experiment and they are so full of spark, so I think the Indian new age woman is somebody who is willing to experiment just about anything.
