What is the best way to add to brighten and add a healthy flush of colour to your face? A blush, of course. While powder blushes are perfect for those with oily skin or if you’re looking for a not-so-subtle pop of colour, cream blushes work best for those looking for a more natural finish.

But working with a cream blush can be a little tricky; if not done right, it can end up looking cakey, and that’s something you (obviously) don’t want. So, to save you the hassle of having to fix your blotchy blush throughout the day, here three awesome ways to apply a cream blush for that envious flush of colour on the face.

01. With your fingers

01. With your fingers

Applying a powder brush with your fingers is a big no-no, but when it comes to a cream blush, use your fingers all you want. Why? Because the heat from your fingers will melt the product into your face and give you that natural finish you oh-so-desire.

Remember: Don’t dip your fingers into the product or else you’ll risk contaminating it. Instead, use a brush to apply the product on your face and then, with the tips of your index and middle finger, blend it in using tapping motions. Continue doing this until you’re satisfied with the results.

02. With a stippling brush

A stippling brush is usually used to apply foundation, but it works really well when it comes to applying cream blush as well. Simply take a bit of the product onto the brush and apply it to the apples of your cheeks. Blend the blush in a circular motion for a beautiful, airbrushed finish.

03. With a makeup sponge

Another great way to apply cream blush is by using a makeup sponge. This works in the same way as applying your cream or liquid foundation. Simply apply a bit of the cream blush onto your cheeks using a makeup brush (again, avoid sticking your fingers in a cream-based product at all costs to prevent the spread and growth of bacteria) and blend this cream blush using the makeup sponge in the same way that you would blend your foundation — dab, dab, dab!
