Director R Balki’s newest venture ‘Padman’ has been in talks since last year and stars Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte. The movie is inspired by the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham – the 2016 Padma Shri winner who invented a low-cost sanitary pad machine and voiced concerns about the unhealthy menstrual practices in rural areas of the country. It is time Indians (especially men) started talking openly about periods without it seeming like taboo. We hope this movie will make a difference! Also, if you haven’t sensed the pattern already, this movie is a yet another attempt by Akshay Kumar to do a film with a strong social message. It’s all set to release on the 26th of January.
You probably haven’t heard about this film as there’s not much buzz created around it, but when we watched the a lil sneak peek video which was published just a few days ago, we were instantly on board! The film is directed by Neeraj Pandey (director of ‘Baby’, ‘Special 26’ and ‘A Wednesday’) who seems like he’s back on track with the genre he’s best at after ‘M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story’, which was said to have been a distraction for him. It focuses on the story of two Indian Army officers, a mentor & his protégé. It stars veteran actors Manoj Bajpayee, Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah. Also, Sidharth Malhotra! This crime drama is all set to release on Republic Day 2018. We can’t wait!
Honestly speaking, when the first look of this movie came out, we were floored and shocked at the same time! This movie intrigues every nerve inside us because it’s rather confusing – the poster looks like it’s a horror film, but it actually is a love story featuring Anushka Sharma. ‘Pari’ hits the theatres on 9th Feb 2018!
Aalia Bhatt is back and this time with ‘Raazi’ – The much-awaited film whose sneak peeks we keep seeing on her Instagram. Raazi stars ‘Masaan’ sweetheart Vicky Kaushal opposite Alia and is directed by Meghna Gulzar. The genre is period-thriller, Aalia’s first time doing this genre, and we’re sure she’s going to be fab! Raazi releases on the 11th of May, 2018.
The much talked about biopic on Bollywood’s favourite bad boy Sanjay Dutt stars Ranbir Kapoor and is all set to release on the 30th of March 2018. Although Sanjay Dutt’s life has pretty much always been an open book, we’re really excited to see Ranbir’s attempt at method acting and how the controversial events of his life are depicted in the movie.
Harshwardhan Kapoor was the center of everyone’s attention because of ‘Mirzya’, a movie that unfortunately failed to make a mark on the audiences. But he is back now, with ‘Bhavesh Joshi’, a film directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. Yes, the same guy who gave us treasures like ‘Udaan’ and ‘Lootera’. It’s co-written by another genius Anurag Kashyap, so it’s obvious that our expectations are high.
And that was a roundup of upcoming movies of 2018 that we’re excited about. Yeah, we know what you’re thinking… How could we possibly miss out on ‘Veere Di Wedding’? Well, we haven’t! In fact we have more than one reason to be excited about it. Want to know what they are? Check this out!
