It’s always better to go to someone who has done a piercing for someone you know; word of mouth always helps. Improper piercing can lead to permanent scarring, which you don’t want. So, even if you have to spend a few extra bucks, make sure you’re going to a professional.

Make sure you’re well informed about the sanitization and piercing tools that are going to be used. Is it going to be a gunshot or a needle? Is the needle clean? In fact, you need to see the sanitization happening in front of your eyes. Ignoring these things is a risk that you just cannot take!

Take a friend with you

If you’re having any second thoughts or the fear of pain is making you reluctant, take your friend along with you. They’ll motivate you and be right next to you when you get a piercing done!

Okay, so there is going to be some blood and there is going to be some swelling post your piercing. Make sure you ask your specialist about all kinds of after-care that you need to practice until it heals. Often, the piercing specialist will give you rock salt or a certain healing oil and will instruct you how to use it. If they don’t, insist on it. Each type of piercing comes with a specific set of do’s and don’ts, for example, being careful while using a towel as it might get stuck and pull the piercing out, sleeping on one side so there’s no friction on the ear, cleaning the belly piercing regularly etc. Make sure you’re well-informed about both!
