Ever been in a situation where you see someone wearing something absolutely atrocious and it’s taken all your will power not to go up to them and say “What the hell were you thinking?” Yes, we’ve all been there! This is how mercilessly trend conscious the world is today, so you simply can't afford fashion disasters.

Fashion trends change in the blink of an eye — yesterday’s “yay” can easily become tomorrow’s “nay”. Therefore the pressure to keep up is immense. Everyone has an inherent and unique sense of style but sometimes we tend to take things too far, causing even the best fashionistas to make the occasional faux pas while trying to be different and edgy.

So, to help you make better choices, we’ve drawn up a list of major fashion disasters that you must avoid at all costs:

1. The pairing debacle

1. The pairing debacle

While it’s important for elements of your outfit to complement each other, they don't necessarily have to be an exact match. Yes, white on white is a thing but animal prints on florals is never a good idea! And neither is wearing the same print all over (clothes, shoes, bag…the works). Although matching tops and bottoms are a raging trend these days, it needs to be subtle and easy on the eyes. If you obsess too much over pairing your prints with prints or a pair a bright coloured top with even brighter pants, it’s going to result in one big blinding debacle.

2. Visible bra-straps

Nothing ruins a perfectly good outfit more, than your bra strap playing peek-a-boo. It’s not sexy or cool…it’s just plain tacky! It’s never a good idea to let your bra-strap show, irrespective of the colour or pattern — it simply doesn't qualify as a fashion statement. Even transparent straps are a no-no…because, well, they're not really all that transparent, are they?

3. The Bodycon disaster

3. The Bodycon disaster

Bodycons can look super-sexy, but only if you have the figure to carry them off. These ultra-fitted, figure-hugging outfits accentuate all your curves…which is a good thing, provided you’re in shape. If you happen to be on the healthier side, stay far away from bodycons and other tight fitting clothes to refrain from ending up with a very prominent spillage - a muffin top over your jeans or love handles bulging around your waist…or both! If you think wearing tighter clothes is going to make you look thinner…it’s not! It’s only going to further highlight what you're trying to hide.

4. Extra short hot-shorts

All girls have a soft corner for hot shorts, we know that! But it’s a balancing act to get the length of those shorts just right. While it’s ok to show off those legs, if you're shorts are revealing anything more, it’s a problem. It’s quite visually unappealing to have your butt sticking out of the bottom of your shorts…or worse, your underwear!

5. The accessory overkill

5. The accessory overkill

Accessories are a great addition to your look, but not when you go overboard layering them one on top of the other. If you're wearing an embellished outfit please don't go crazy pairing it with layers of jewellery. If you’ve chosen to sport a statement necklace, there’s no need to pair it with flashy danglers. The accessory will work its magic only when you allow it some space to stand out. Otherwise it’s just another ill-fitting piece in you messy jigsaw of a look. Always remember…less is more!

6. Visible Underwear

Yes, we know you've invested in underwear, and while that’s great…nobody asked you for proof! There’s nothing more cringe worthy than your underwear showing — either popping up above your pants or that visible panty line showing through your fitted clothes. Ladies, having that G-string peek out at the top of your jeans only screams one word—trashy! After all, they’re called undergarments for a reason…they belong UNDER your garments! As far as visible panty lines are concerned there’s a simple solution for it…invest in some seamless underwear. Every girl needs to have at least three in her lingerie closet…no excuses!

Staying on trend is important but don't pick garments just because they're in fashion. Go for clothes that suit your style and more importantly, your body type. But also don't let the fear of a little slip up hold you back from looking your stylish best. Use our guide here to keep things in check and you should be just fine.
