LRT Diaries—The Vh1 Sound Nation Awards truly rocked!
The first 100 Pipers Vh1 Sound Nation Awards just culminated in Mumbai at the Hard Rock Café. True to its nature, the awards night was the finale to a series of live music festivals held across the metro cities by some of India’s biggest English music artists and bands. In a country that is inundated with Bollywood awards functions and that prominently celebrates Bollywood music, this event definitely deserves a mention since it is the first one celebrating alternative music. There are some very talented bands that exist here and a major section of the population enjoys and follows these bands and their music religiously. It’s great that they are now being celebrated on a larger platform. Ash Roy won best electronic Dj; Dj Sa was conferred best Hip-Hop Dj award, Bandish Projekt-Alchemy won best music video, Nischay Parekh was voted best new artist, Nitin Sawhney won best Global Indian (he has a magnificent reach across the world with his music); Best Electronic act was given to BOLT and Best Metal act to Reptilian Death. Iconic bands like Indus Creed and Midival Punditz performed at the awards night and had the audience enthralled. Guests at the function decided to somewhat embrace the inner rocker-bohemian nature and were seen in outfits that were edgy or free spirited, beyond being just glamorous. Some of our favourite outfits at the awards evening were worn by Carol Gracias, Ramona Arena, Shruti Hasan and Candice Pinto.

Carol Gracias in a Malini Ramani dress looked fantastic! We loved the choice of colours, the gold heels and the fact that it was such a simple, easy-flowing, stylish outfit. Of course, you need Carol’s body, attitude and height to make the outfit look as good as she did. She definitely got our vote for the most stylish (and different!) outfit of that evening.

Ramona Arena in a black embellished Veda Raheja gown also looked quite spectacular. She hosted the awards night along with Cyrus Sahukar, and the gown was befitting a host and quite apt for the event. We loved the sheer panels in the outfit, which turned it from a regular black gown to a sexy, edgy outfit.

Shruti Hasan in an Amit Aggarwal grey pulled off the look pretty well—except for the black inner she wore. It did not look like it belonged to the outfit (it would’ve looked much better sheer). But it’s rare to see people sporting grey and she did a good job of it.

And lastly, Candice Pinto dressed in a short dress looked cool and showed off really well toned legs. (Something we should all aim for! Candice works out her legs really hard—she runs regularly, and also does her squats, lunges and calf raises to make sure her legs are toned all the way.) Her outfit was cute and sexy, but those legs got her all the points!
