Experimenting with makeup is fun. Spending hours watching video after video on social media to try and replicate looks that make our face glow and our hearts happy - if that isn’t fun, then what is? So, on our quest of finding new things to try on, we stumbled upon the two-toned lips trend, and it is just as fun as it sounds.

What are two-toned lips?

Trend alert: Two-toned lips because why settle for one colour

What are two-toned lips?

The two-toned lip trend is the perfect solution for all your ‘should I go for the red lipstick or should I pick the mauve this morning’ dilemma. This trend is all about sporting two different shades of lipsticks on your lips to get a chic, vibrant look this season. You can either go bold and sport two different shades on your top and bottom lips or take the K-Beauty route and create an ombré effect using a darker colour on the centre of your lips and a lighter one on the outer edge.

How to get the look right?

If you are on board to try this playful trend but aren’t sure how to go forward with it, we have a few suggestions for you to try out.

Start easy. You can pick a combination of your favourite lip shades, say a bold matte red and flirty bubblegum pink colour. Not only is it easy to recreate, but it also looks oh-so-striking and playful. Make sure to pick complementing colours if you want an understated look. But if you wanna go all out, go ahead sweep on clashing colours to make a bold statement.

The ombré effect

The ombré effect

If you decide to go all out, then you can try out the ombré look with this trend as well. You can give a nice dimension to your lips with this trend by choosing two compatible shades from the same colour family and a lip liner.

Start with your lip liner. Choose a shade darker than your lipstick to add more effect and shade the corners of your lips nicely. Then, pick out a light-hued lip colour and apply it at the centre of your lips to give dimension and create the ombré effect. It is essential to apply the lighter shade first to ensure its effect and shade are visible after you put on a coat of the darker lipstick.

It’s now time to pick up the darker lip shade. Apply it evenly around the corners of your lips that you earlier applied the lip liner. Now, all you’ve got to do is blend your two colours with a brush. Just make sure you don’t blend too much or too little and end up wiping off the entire ombré effect that you worked so hard to achieve.
