The hair colouring industry is in its prime RN. With so many colour trends popping up every other day, we’re spoilt for choice! Hair colour has become an extension of people’s personalities and no one wants to stick to the basic browns and reds anymore. From flaming reds to galaxy purples to greys and even silvers, we have all sorts of fashion colours taking over. But since Indian hair is dark in colour, the dynamics of getting bright, fashion colours changes drastically. Here are a few things you should keep in mind before getting a fashion colour for your hair.

Cool undertones

Cool undertones

Yes, you may want to get every colour in the world on your hair, but just like makeup, some shades work on us and some don’t. For this, you need to determine the undertone of your skin. Stick your hand out in a well lit room, preferably sunlit. Examine your veins. If they are blue, you have a cool undertone which means you can experiment with fashion colours like lavenders, rose golds and even silvers.

Warm and neutral undertones

If you have green veins, this means that you have a warm undertone. So lilacs, rose golds may not work on you. Opt for darker shades of reds, purples and even pinks. Lighter colours will make you look darker than your usual skin tone whereas deeper shades will enhance your skintone. If you have a mix of green and blue veins, you have a neutral undertone and you can pretty much pull off any colour.

Pre-lightening

Pre-lightening

Indians have dark hair, and for bright hair to deposit on it to the max, the base of the hair needs to be light. Except for dark reds, all colours need hair that is bleached. This is why dark hair is first bleached into blonde and then the fashion colour is painted on the bleached hair. Bleach can often damage your hair and has a set of do’s and don’ts when it comes to maintenance.

Fashion colours fade easily

If you think your hair colour is going to last you a very long time, you’re wrong. External factors like heat and using shampoo and conditioner that’s not meant for coloured hair will cause the fashion colour to fade. Even if you’re using the right shampoo, every time you wash your hair, you will see the colour fade in the shower. Slowly, the bleached blonde will start showing up. If you wish to maintain the colour, you will have to get it retouched regularly.

Box colours

Box colours

Box colours are not fashion colours. If you see a box colour packaging with a stunning flame red on the model, you should know that the red is never going to turn out the same way on your hair. Box colours are full of chemicals and you should prefer salons over them as hairstylists do strand tests on your hair for you to see how it will exactly look like. Picking out a good salon is equally important.

So now that you pretty much know everything about getting a fashion colour, you can weigh the pros and cons and see what works for you. Fashion colours can be refreshing and can transform your look entirely! Do give them a try!
