When it comes to makeup, it’s all about experimenting and hav* fun! While there’s no wrong way to apply makeup, everyone has a process that they usually stick to and one that really works for them. That said, there is this new ‘reverse’ makeup trend that has surfaced which is all about going backwards with your makeup.
Intrigued? Curious? Here’s how you can go backwards with your makeup steps and try this trend...
- Go for mascara first
- Lipstick first, lip liner next
- Start filling your brows from the outside in
- Concealer before foundation
- Line your eyes by starting at the outer corner
Go for mascara first

After you’re done prepping your face with a primer, reach out straight for a mascara to widen your eyes and to fan out your lashes. Apply a single coat, let dry and follow it up with eye makeup. Once your eye makeup is in place, go for another coat of mascara for a dramatic effect. And, do a final assessment after you have a full-face makeup, to see if you need another coat.
Lipstick first, lip liner next

Have you ever lined your lips after applying lipstick? No? Try now! While it’s not wrong to follow your usual routine, lining last gives you a perfect shape to your lips without creating an unnatural line and at the same time, helps contain the lip colour.
Start filling your brows from the outside in

If you want your defined brows to look natural, work from the outside in. This will give them a natural shape. Because brows need to look sharper on the ends, this reverse method will help you apply stronger colour just where you need to. Keep in mind that once you’re done filling your brows, use a spoolie brush to set them in place.
Concealer before foundation

Use a concealer to cover areas of discoloration under your eyes, around your mouth area or to hide any blemishes. Next, reach out for your foundation and apply only on areas where you really need to and blend it out. This will help you achieve the most natural finish.
Line your eyes by starting at the outer corner

Always dreamt of nailing winged eyeliner? Here’s a trick to perfect it. Start by lining the outer corner of your lower lash line and extend slightly beyond the corner of your eye. Next, move towards your upper lash line. Using the former line as your guide will give you perfect wings. If you know what we mean!
