The only thing worse than breakouts is the annoying spots and blemishes they leave behind. These pesky scars can take weeks, if not months, to fade. Annoying, right? But fret not; it turns out there’s a simple and rather quick way to conceal these pesky spots with makeup. While your anti-acne skincare routine works to fade those scars into oblivion, you can turn to makeup to quickly conceal them.

Here’s an easy step-by-step guide to hide acne spots with makeup like a pro. Read on…

Step 1: Hydrate your skin

Step 1: Hydrate your skin

Begin with drenching your skin with Pond’s Super Light Gel Oil Free Moisturiser. Since acne makes your skin feel super oily, thanks to excess sebum production, you must nourish your skin with this oil-free moisturiser to keep it hydrated throughout the day. Infused with hyaluronic acid and vitamin E, it’ll also cool down inflammation left behind by acne. Dot the non-greasy gel on your face and massage it in nicely.

Step 2: Use a primer

Step 2: Use a primer

Safe to say, primer is a smart investment for your makeup needs. Not only does it create an added layer between your skin and makeup, but it also minimises the appearance of pores and keeps oiliness in check by controlling sebum on the skin. We recommend using the Lakmé Absolute Blur Perfect Makeup Primer. It is non-sticky and doesn’t leave a white cast on your face. Just apply the primer on the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin and blend it outwards.

Step 3: Be sure to colour correct

Step 3: Be sure to colour correct

We say this with experience, colour correcting your skin is not a big deal. In fact, this one step will do wonders to hide acne on the skin perfectly. Since the acne spots turn brown after drying out, make sure to use an orange colour corrector to camouflage them well. But, if you don’t have it in orange, the next best bet is to use orange lipstick instead. Take a small makeup brush and rub it on the lipstick. Once the brush has picked some colour, dab it over your brown spots lightly.

Step 4: Use a concealer

Step 4: Use a concealer

While the orange corrector covers your acne spots, move on to concealing your skin for added coverage. Remember, the concealer shade should match your skin tone. We love using the Lakmé Absolute White Intense Concealer Stick, which has SPF 20 and packs a punch when it comes to hiding blemishes. Apply it lightly on your acne spots and with light finger strokes, blend it in your skin. The golden rule is to not rub it. If the spots and active acne is still peeking through, use more concealer.

Step 5: Use a matte foundation

Step 5: Use a matte foundation

For those with oily skin, get yourself a matte formula like the Lakmé 9 To 5 Primer + Matte Perfect Cover Foundation. It will lend your face an effortlessly matte finish without looking heavy. First, dot the foundation all over your face and neck and blend it with a beauty sponge. The trick is to dab nicely and not rub.

Step 6: Set it with powder

Step 6: Set it with powder

Keeping your base intact to avoid fading or transferring is the last (and important) step. This is why we suggest setting your makeup with Lakmé Absolute White Intense Wet & Dry Compact. This SPF-infused formula can be used in a dry or wet form, as the name suggests. For more coverage, simply dampen your sponge applicator and dab it on your face. Pressing the powder on your skin will prevent your makeup from budging or cracking.
