Sitting in front of the webcam and attending several video calls a day for both work meetings and sharing a ‘quarantini’ with your friends has become the new normal. You have started spending more time on Zoom, Teams, Skype and other video calling apps than your favourite social media apps. During one of these meetings, you may have had a WTF moment when you looked at yourself on the screen and realised it's not even close to the reflection you saw in the bathroom mirror.

Well, for starters, everyone does look different on camera. And while you may have exceptional makeup application skills IRL, the same won’t necessarily translate on camera. So, to make your job easy and ensure you don’t get distracted by your own reflection during these meetings, we’ve listed five beauty products that’ll make you look great on video calls. Scroll down to find out what they are.

01. Use a hydrating moisturiser

01. Use a hydrating moisturiser

Skincare has gone out of the window since the beginning of the lockdown. This combined with wearing masks has invited a lot of skin problems like skin irritation, clogged pores and breakouts. Thus, it’s necessary to give your skin a surge of hydration. Pick a moisturiser that will not only make your skin look better but will also protect it from blue light damage (more about that here).

02. Layer on a medium coverage foundation

02. Layer on a medium coverage foundation

The next step is to apply a medium coverage foundation that will hide imperfections and give your skin a natural and dewy look. Avoid using a heavy coverage foundation as it may look artificial on screen and appear cakey. If you don’t have any major mark and blemishes to hide, a CC cream should be enough to give you an even looking skin tone.

03. Spot conceal

03. Spot conceal

Staying awake and catching up on your favourite K-drama giving you dark undereye circles? ‘Cause same.. The worst part about dark circles is that they look prominent on screen — but, there’s nothing a concealer can’t hide (except your disinterest in the meeting). Dab a little bit of concealer around your eyes before the video call. However, make sure you hydrate the area well before applying concealer to ensure it blends well.

04. Fill in your brows

04. Fill in your brows

The next step is to fill in your brows — they help accentuate your eyes and define the face. Invest in a brow pencil that will enhance the shape of your natural brows and add balance to your face. Again, make sure to use light, feather-like strokes when filling in your brows and don’t go overboard or it may look unnatural and ruin the look completely.

05. Add colour to your lips and cheeks

05. Add colour to your lips and cheeks

The final step before you sit in front of the webcam is to add a pop of colour to your lips and cheek. Use a poppy colour if you want to make a statement or stick to browns and nude if you like playing it safe. Swipe on some blushe on the apples of your cheeks to add a flush of colour to your face and give it a youthful appearance.
