Unless you are Cinderella who has to rush out from the party at the stroke of midnight, chances are that you will be staying much longer, dancing, drinking and enjoying the festive holiday season. And you don’t want your makeup to be rushing out the door, either. You have to make sure your makeup lasts through the night so you leave the party looking as pretty as when you first entered it.

Of ‘prime’ importance

You can never skip primer. There are specific ones formulated for your face, eyes and lips. They act as glue and help keep your makeup on for longer.
Apply makeup in thin layers

This rule applies to your foundation as well as powder. Applying thick layers right at the beginning may not settle well on your skin and may look cakey. Cakey makeup shifts and looks patchy after some time.
Blot after foundation

After applying foundation, take a blotting paper or a single ply of tissue paper and gently dab it over your face. This takes away extra oils from your face and prevents the makeup from melting down. And don’t worry; this step will not take away your makeup, just the excess oils.
Control shine with mineral powder

Halfway through the party, if your find your ‘T’ zone shiny, dust a mineral powder gently across your nose and forehead. This does not look heavy and yet will leave your skin shine-free.
Mask it

Before you leave for the party, try and give your skin extra nourishment with a deep conditioning face mask. For example if you have oily skin, apply a clay face mask, if you have dry skin, apply a hydrating face mask and if you have sensitive skin, apply a face mask that is soothing and calms your skin. Sheet masks are all the rage and they work just as well, too!
