As we get to spring-cleaning our closets every season, in the midst of all those clothes, shoes and bags, we often give that precious makeup bag a miss. We know it’s another task added to your long t-do list, but, it’s integral so that you can dispose off old expired make-up. We give you the lowdown on how to get started.

Divide and conquer

Divide and conquer

Do you get lost in your make-up bag and end up wasting time trying to find that eye pencil or lip liner? Divide your kit into different sections. Each section should be dedicated to different parts of the face i.e. eyes, lips, and face etc. Ideally, you should store tools and makeup products in separate bags.

Pro tip: Buy a makeup bag with many pockets and zips! Also, opt for a transparent box/bag to save you so much trouble!

Don’t hoard
You don’t need 5 different shades of nude lipsticks and multiple pink blushes. Learn to donate or dispose of what you don’t need. Also buy eye shadow quads or blush palettes rather than individual products. They are cheaper and easier to store.

Multipurpose products

Multipurpose products

If you’re the kind of person who uses just one bag for makeup, opt for products that have a dual purpose or use. Tints work well for both cheeks and lips. Crème blushes can also double up as a lipstick while brown and black eyeshadows can be used to fill in your eyebrows.

Buy minis
If you’re always on-the-go and do your makeup while travelling or in the bathroom, invest in miniatures of your products which are easy to carry and quick to apply.

Make a list!

Make a list!

When you’re on a budget but still want to look super glamorous, make a list of products you need on a daily basis. Multipurpose products are great money savers. Wait for sales to shop and get great discounts on the products on your list.

Let it go
If you have any expired or spoilt products, please let them go! Don’t hold on to them as using such products can cause serious acne, rashes and irritation.
