If you’ve grown up reading beauty magazines and websites, you would know that like almost every other aspect of our life, makeup too has its own set of rules. But breaking makeup rules sounds like fun – wouldn’t you like to wear brown lipstick without being told it’s a shade for older women?
So, we’ve compiled a list of outdated makeup rules that should be thrown out of the window. Go ahead break ‘em all!
- Don’t pair smokey eye with bold lip
- Mascara is only for top lashes
- Match your lip liner to your lipstick
- Avoid coloured eyeshadow during the day
- Falsies are reserved for evening looks
Don’t pair smokey eye with bold lip

While it is wise to not go overboard, you don’t necessarily have to wear a nude lipstick every time you sport a smokey eye. If you love that pink lip colour a little too much, go ahead and pair it with your smokey eye and set your own beauty rules.
Mascara is only for top lashes

You may have heard that applying mascara to your bottom lashes can make you look tired and old. That is a seriously outdated makeup rule, because it doesn’t apply to everyone. In fact, for some people, applying mascara to the bottom lashes make their eyes look more awake.
Match your lip liner to your lipstick

No, we are not asking you to use two drastically different colours. But it won’t be a crime if they don’t match either. In fact, we think it’s the easiest way to create ombre lips! Go through your makeup stash, find a pair that are not the perfect match and try them on.
Avoid coloured eyeshadow during the day

If you have reserved the nude shades strictly for day time and coloured eyeshadow for evening look, it’s time to spruce things up a bit. Experiment and play around with different colours.
Falsies are reserved for evening looks

Falsies can be dramatic, but that doesn’t mean you can’t wear them during the day. Don’t opt for something too heavy; instead, look for lashes with ultra thin bands and fine, fluttery lashes.
