The right way to fill in different brow shapes

The right way to fill in different brow shapes

Good eyebrows are everything – they structure your face and enhance your makeup, no matter how dramatic or natural your makeup is. The 90s were all about the skinny, pencil-thin brows but we’re so over that trend and frankly, it’s never coming back anyway. Today, we’re all about the unkempt, bushy, thick brows! But obviously, everyone has different brow shapes so understanding them and filling them accordingly is a trick you ought to master. Scroll down to learn how…

You will need…

Investing in good eyebrow products is extremely important when you want to achieve fuller, Cara Delevingne brows. You can fill in your eyebrows with a brow pencil as well as an eye shadow that’s one tone lighter than your natural brow hair!

Eyebrow pencil

Eyebrow pencil

We highly recommend the Lakmé Absolute Precision Eye Artist Eyebrow Pencil as your go-to as it comes with a sharp tip that helps you get the strokes on point! It will also last you a long time and will give you the desired results in no time!

Eye shadow

Eye shadow

Did you know that your favourite brown eye shadow could double up as an eyebrow product too? As most of us Indians have dark brows, the brown blends perfectly with the brows. The hair holds the powder pigment making it last longer and easier to set using clear mascara. We swear by Lakmé Absolute Illuminating Eye Shadow Palette!

Now let’s get shaping…

Thin, arched or steep arched

Thin, arched or steep arched

If you have any of the above brow shapes, the key is to make them look fuller by creating an illusion of false hair strands. Start by brushing the eyebrows in an upward direction with a spoolie. You can also use an old mascara wand for this. Once this is done, grab your eyebrow pencil and create small strokes in the direction of your hair. Start with drawing the strokes in the sparse areas and then move on to the beginning of your brow. Remember to apply very less pressure in the beginning of your brow for it to look as natural as possible. Once done, take your spoolie/mascara wand and brush lightly again. We recommend the Lakmé Absolute Precision Eye Artist Eyebrow Pencil for this.

Thick brows (could be rounded or arched)

<a href=Thick brows (could be rounded or arched)" title="Thick brows (could be rounded or arched)" width="600" height="400" >

If you have thick, unruly eyebrows, you know the struggle you face with keeping them in place. Thicker brows tend to have uneven edges so the best way to define them is with a powder shadow. You can pick shades of brown, but remember to not use black powder shadow as it’ll look like someone used a permanent marker to darken them. Pluck the extra hair using a tweezer and get filling. Take very little eye shadow on an angular brush and start defining the edges (top and bottom) of your brows making light strokes. We recommend using the Lakmé Absolute Illuminating Eye Shadow Palette for the best results! Fill in any sparse areas and once you’re done, quickly set the brow with clear mascara or a brow gel. It’ll stay put all day!

Flat / Straight brows (no arch)

Flat / Straight brows (no arch)

Flat brows have no arches. There’s no clear definition or curve to these eyebrows, but the best part is that they’re easy to tweeze as there’s no arches involved that you can screw up. The tricky part of these brows is that they can have scanty beginnings, so your main focus is to get the beginning right. Use a lighter shade of brown and fill in slowly to create a square-ish beginning. If you get too much product on, use a spoolie to blend it. Build up the colour as you start moving to the center of the brow and fill it a little further than where your brow actually ends.

Highly arched

Highly arched

If you have highly arched eyebrows, you’ve hit the jackpot! An already arched brow just needs to be defined from the arches and the sparse areas. For this shape, a nice, fanned out finish looks stunning just like Kaia Gerber’s. Use an angular brush to fill in the sparse areas and use your clear mascara/brow gel to create a fanned out look!

BB TREND ALERT—MERMAID LASHES

BB TREND ALERT—MERMAID LASHES

Makeup artists, Youtubers and the beauty community in general has been obsessed with the eye area—we’ve seen it with eyebrow trends and eyeliner trends thus far, so it was no surprise to us that the latest trend focussed on lashes.

Enter: Mermaid Lashes, a trend that’s raging on Instagram and probably will make it to one of 2017s most popular beauty trends!

Mermaid Lashes extension

Mermaid lashes are just another extension of the mermaid hair and mermaid makeup.

We know what you’re thinking? How much time do people actually have to dye their lashes the colours of the rainbow, right? Wrong!

Thankfully, mermaid lashes don’t involve any colouring. Instead, they’re actually multi-coloured falsies that you merely use as an addition on your natural lashes to create an ombré effect.

Mermaid Lashes look

However, since these colourful lashes may not be available everywhere you can even try a simple hack and colour the tips of your lashes using a coloured mascara like the Lakme Eyeconic Curling Mascara in Royal Blue.

Alternately, you could also hunt for lashes in a single colour, cut them and then apply them only to the outer ends of your lash line to create the desired ombré look based on your skin tone and the colour you want to wear.

5 Mascara Hacks Every Woman Should Master

5 Mascara Hacks Every Woman Should Master
Caring for your eyes isn't enough, they need dressing up too! The right kind of eye makeup can transform your face from drab to fab within minutes! Here are 5 mascara hacks every lady should know…

1. Keep It Clean

1. Keep It Clean

A clean mascara wand means much smoother application and a more even finish. Wash it every alternate week with warm water to get rid of any mascara build-up. Meanwhile, keep the tube covered with some scotch-tape during cleaning, to prevent hardening of the product. Ensure the wand is completely dry before placing it back in the tube. Next, prior to applying, wipe excess product off the wand, thereby leaving just the right amount needed to coat the lashes.

2. Heat It Up

Another useful tip is to avoid the hassles of clumpy, cakey mascara by warming it up slightly, before applying. Simply roll the tube briskly between your palms, and the heat from your body will warm the product, enabling a smooth, clump-free application.

3. Be Choosy

3. Be Choosy

Be sure to invest in a mascara that suits you. Choosing water-proof mascara is essential, as 'raccoon eyes' look adorable on them, not on us. It's also important to know the finish of your mascara. For instance, sparse lashes require a volumizing formula, whereas short lashes need curling and lengthening options. This also implies choosing the right shape of brush being used.

Lakmé Eyeconic Curling Mascara

Our favourites are the Lakmé Eyeconic Curling Mascara and Lakmé Absolute Flutter Secrets Dramatic Eyes Mascara. The former has a Smart Curl Brush and D-Panthenol Moisturizer which gently adds volume to the eyelashes for a fresh day look. The latter is best suited for a night out as its easy applicator gives the eyelashes plenty of volume and definition while keeping them smudge-resistant and waterproof.

4. Wear It Right

It's always advisable to allow your mascara time to dry and set between coats. Use an eyelash comb to carefully remove any clumps of excess product, so the next coat can be applied smoothly. Opt for mascara that will curl your lashes outward, so you don't need an eyelash curler. Additionally, switch from your conventional black mascara to a tinted one. Purple, mauve and turquoise blue add a dash of excitement and tend to brighten the eyes, making them appear larger. Lastly, be sure to change your mascara every 3 to 6 months, to keep your eyes healthy and avoid bacterial build up.

5. Trick n' Treat

5. Trick n' Treat

Primp your eyes with this quick 3-step trick. First, apply a single coat of mascara on your eyelashes. Next, douse a makeup brush in baby powder and gently dab it on the first coat, ensuring the powder doesn't enter your eyes. Lastly, finish off with a second and final coat of mascara. Your eyelashes will instantly appear full and thick.

There you go; 5 easy steps to achieve dramatic eyes. And remember, confidence will do for you, what no amount of makeup can! Good luck!

ARE YOU FOLLOWING THESE BASIC EYESHADOW RULES FOR YOUR EYE MAKEUP?

ARE YOU FOLLOWING THESE BASIC EYESHADOW RULES FOR YOUR EYE MAKEUP?
Applying eyeshadow can be a bit of a daunting task if your makeup ritual only involves a cat eye and red lips. But when it’s party season or an evening out—eyeshadows help amp up your makeup game. Precisely why you need some basic eyeshadow rules in case you’re an amateur at eye makeup. Take a look…

Use a primer

Use a primer

It is a given that if you’re applying eyeshadow, you’re heading to a formal dinner or a party. Naturally then, you want your eyeshadow to stay put for as long as you’re at the event. This is why you need a primer on your eyes. This will dissuade your eyelids from turning greasy thereby helping your makeup stay longer. We suggest using the Lakmé Absolute Blur Perfect Makeup Primer. This blush toned formula will set matte on to your eyelids and skin. Additionally, it is waterproof, which makes it the perfect primer if you’re looking for an oil-free finish.

Know your eye shape

Know your eye shape

A lot of how your eyeshadow technique turns out depends on your eye shape. Find out if you have deep set eyes, almond eyes, hooded eyes, etc. Know this because gradient eyes or even a special style of smokey eyes will look completely different on different eye shapes. So the best thing to do is know your eye shape before you actually attempt an eyeshadow technique.

Blend is your friend

Blend is your friend

Blending your edges is crucial to any eyeshadow application. Make sure you gently sweep your brush along your lid to ensure there are no harsh lines because otherwise your eyeshadow application will end up being one big fail and you certainly don’t want that, do you?

Invest in the right tools

Invest in the right tools

We can’t tell you enough about how important it is for you to use the right brushes for blending. The most important eyeshadow brushes are the basic eyeshadow brush, wherein the bristles are flat, a blending brush wherein the bristles are fluffier and of course, the angled brush that will help you apply your liner once you’re done with the eyeshadow.

Know your formula

Know your formula

If you have dry skin, using a creamy eyeshadow might work for you. But if you have oily skin—stay away from them and use powder eyeshadows instead. Creamy eyeshadows will make your lids greasy much faster while powder eyeshadows will stay put for longer hours. If you want the perfect pressed eyeshadow powders, we suggest using the Lakmé 9 to 5 Eye Quartet Eye Shadow, Desert Rose and the Lakmé 9 to 5 Eye Quartet Eye Shadow, Tanjore Rush. These are highly pigmented glittery eyeshadows that are sure to help you achieve the perfect eyeshadow application. From a gradient eye to a smokey eye, these eyeshadows will be your BFFs when it comes to eye makeup.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR UNDER EYE CONCEALER FROM CREASING

HOW TO KEEP YOUR UNDER EYE CONCEALER FROM CREASING
Concealers—they’re magic potions for our skin when we’ve had a rough night or when we’ve been partying a tad too much and waking up to tired looking under eyes. If this is also your story, you might know that concealers can crease and look cakey under the eyes after a point. While doing away with them is absolutely not an option, what you can do is use our tricks and tips to save your concealer from creasing…

Use a minimal amount at first

Use a minimal amount at first

Yeah, we know you’re all excited about concealing those dark circles but over-applying is only going to make things worse. Make sure you apply just a wee bit and then dab/use a concealer sponge to set it under the eyes. If required, go for a little more but don’t cake it up too much as that is sure to cause creasing.

Go over with a compact

Go over with a compact

Applying makeup can be both fun and tedious. There are so many steps to the finishing process but if you truly wish to avoid concealer creasing, make sure you apply compact powder over the concealer so it sets perfectly. But while you’re at it, make sure you apply the compact quick otherwise the concealer tends settle into your fine lines. You can use the Lakmé 9 to 5 Flawless Matte Complexion Compact that’ll set matte and give you coverage.

Use an effective concealer

Use an effective concealer

Creasing largely depends on the kind of products you use. Use something that’s easy to hold and one that blends well with the skin. Make sure the texture isn’t overtly drying as that would surely make your concealer crease. We’ve been relying on the Lakmé Absolute White Intense Concealer Stick with SPF 20 as our go-to concealer. This one comes in fair and medium shades so you get coverage along with protection from the sun.

Layer your concealer routine

Layer your concealer routine

Again—not exactly the best thing for you lazy ones but this step is crucial to concealer application. Just like you prep your skin for foundation to stay longer, you also prep your under eyes so your concealer stays put and doesn’t crease. Do so by using a hydrating eye cream. Let your skin drink it up and then go ahead with the concealer.

Stay away from the lash line

Stay away from the lash line

Are you making the mistake of applying concealer very close to your bottom lashes? Now that’s where your concealer settles and creases. So make sure you apply it slightly under the lash line and then ensure that you are extra careful while blending with your fingertips or brush.

HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR CONCEALER

HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR CONCEALER
On days when foundation is a bit much for our skin yet we need that bit of coverage, we rely on our concealer. Not only is it our go-to product to hide our dark circles but it’s also our solution to concealing those pesky dark spots. But we got lucky when we discovered how one concealer can actually turn into a multipurpose product! Don’t believe us? Here are the many ways in which you can apply concealer...

BB pro tip

BB pro tip

Before we go into the details of how you can use your concealer in many ways, make sure you get your hands on a concealer that works for your skin tone. We suggest relying on the Lakmé Absolute White Intense Concealer Stick with SPF 20. This one comes in fair and medium shades that give you coverage along with protection from the sun.

Highlight your brow bone

Highlight your brow bone

We wouldn’t be caught dead without doing our brows. If you belong to our team, there’s one big makeup tip to making your brows stand out even more! Use your concealer to highlight your brow bone so the shape of your brows comes into focus. Use this makeup tip as a finishing step once your eyebrows have been filled in.

Use it an eyeshadow base

Use it an eyeshadow base

If like us, your eyeshadow doesn’t stay put for too long, you need this trick, stat! Use your concealer as an eyeshadow base. Just like you layer your skin care routine, you also need to layer your eyeshadow routine and the one way to do this is by creating a canvas for your eyeshadow by first applying just a wee bit of concealer. Blend it in and then add the eyeshadows to your lids and crease.

Give your lips definition

Give your lips definition

If your lips are pigmented, you’re not alone. We often feel like the colour pay off of our fave lipstick isn’t what we’d like it to be. We found out that because of the little pigmentation on our lips, the actual colour of the lipstick is lost. This is when we smeared just a little concealer on our fingers and then applied it to our lips. But we applied very little because we didn’t want to lose out on the original colour of our lips. Once that was done, we used our lipstick to achieve maximum colour pay off.

Clean your mistakes

Clean your mistakes

Even though we love makeup, we’re tad bit lazy. So when our mascara gets smeared a little bit, we use our good ol’ concealer to cover it up before we rush out of our home. Think this happens to you many times too? Use a high coverage concealer to try this trick!

Contour your face

Contour your face

You know that time you ordered a concealer that turned out to be too dark for your skin tone? Lucky for you ‘coz now you can actually use it to contour. Don’t bother investing in a contouring kit. Instead just use your deep concealer on your cheekbones and jawline to give yourself a chiseled look.

BB TREND ALERT—THE FLOATING CREASE EYELINER

BB TREND ALERT—THE FLOATING CREASE EYELINER
The floating crease eyeliner trend first made a big splash at New York Fashion Week early this year. It appeared in many decodes after but it was only a few weeks ago that it really exploded on Instagram. And as the beauty world would have it—whatever trends on Instagram begins to trend in reality—so within a few hours, we had beauty bloggers and fashionistas all giving different variations of this super easy floating eyeliner trend a go!
floating crease eyeliner

Like most of the recent trends that have looked to the 90s for inspiration, the Floating Crease Eyeliner too seems to be inspired by the colourful eye trends from two decades ago.

applying floating crease eyeliner

As the name suggests the Floating Crease Eyeliner is a line that sits near the upper crease of your eye, almost mid-way between your eyelashes and your eyebrow. The thin line runs all along the length of your eye stopping just short of the outer end.

Does this mean that it replaces all the eye make that you otherwise would apply? Well…that depends on how light or how heavy you want your eye makeup to be!

wearing floating crease eyeliner

One way of wearing the crease is with a liquid eyeliner the same colour as the crease, alternately, you could ditch applying eyeliner altogether, rely heavily on mascara and have your bright coloured floating eyeliner do all the talking.

apply floating crease eyeliner

Another way is to do the old school winged liner method and go a little OTT with a colourful crease stroke or rather, apply a really thick stroke, almost as if it were shadow itself. Yet another is to double it up with two creases instead of just one!

Want to give this a shot on your own and wondering how to apply eyeliner in this way? Here’s a breakdown…

Step 1: Start by priming your lids as you usually would.

Step 2: Layer on a base eyeshadow colour of your choice.

Step 3: Next, open your eyes and make note of where exactly your eye folds.

Step 4: Once you’ve figured that out, take the liquid eyeliner in the colour of your choice and draw an arc just a few millimeters above the fold in such a way that it sits parallel to the arc.

Like we’ve mentioned before you could even coordinate the colour of your shadow with the colour of your liner or choose two colours from the same family eg: A light pink with a fuchsia or a powder or cobalt blue on the lids with a navy stroke in the floating crease.

floating crease eyeliner style

No matter how you choose to apply this eyeliner style, one thing’s for certain—you ideally must do this with a bare or nude face. Go overboard with too much of a blush or heavy lipstick and you’ll have one part of your face screaming for more attention than the other!

BB TREND ALERT: SQUIGGLE EYELINER TREND

BB TREND ALERT: SQUIGGLE EYELINER TREND
This trend first made its presence felt on brows where eyebrows had a wave-like design on them. But it was only a matter of time that the squiggle beauty trend would turn into an eye makeup phenomenon too. From celebrity makeup artists to beauty enthusiasts on the ‘gram—many have tried their versions of the squiggle eyeliner trend. If you’re curious to know more on this trend, here’s all about it...

What is it?

What is it?

While the wavy brow trend didn’t really have us excited, the wavy eyeliner sure deserves a shot. Not only does it lend a whimsical feel to your eyes but it’s also perfect for those of you who like experimenting with eye makeup. But here’s a word of advice—if you’ve mastered the cat eyeliner style, this one won’t be much of a task. However, if you’re already artistically challenged, creating this eye makeup look might be a bit challenging. Nonetheless, worth a shot, right?

How’s it done?

How’s it done?

If you’re wondering how to apply eyeliner in this style, first, get your hands on an eyeliner with a felt-tip. Wondering how this one helps your case? It’s just easier to navigate around the eyes! Plus, it helps your hands stay steady as opposed to a liquid liner that might turn into a messy affair. We suggest getting your hands on the Lakmé Absolute Precision Liquid Liner that’s perfect for the squiggle eyeliner. Start drawing the outline of the squiggle liner— create waves just a little over the upper lash line. Keep it thin as making it thick will take the beauty away from it. Make sure the outer end is kept thin and winged. Once you’ve drawn the outline, fill it in using the same eyeliner. Ta-da! You’re all set to flaunt squiggle liner.

HOW TO APPLY EYESHADOW ACCORDING TO YOUR SKIN TONE

HOW TO APPLY EYESHADOW ACCORDING TO YOUR SKIN TONE
You borrowed eyeshadow from your best friend but it didn’t look as impactful as it did on her? It’s about time you understood what suits your skin tone. Not every shade is meant for your skin tone. Some shades have the power to stand out on certain skin tones only. This is why you should apply eyeshadow based on your skin tone. If you have a wedding coming up or a big party, it makes sense to know what would work on your skin tone before applying eyeshadow from your fave palette...

If you have an olive skin tone...

If you have an olive skin tone...

When applying eyeshadow, keep in mind that you need to avoid soft shades that will be next to invisible on your skin. Pale colours like peaches and baby pinks won’t stand out against your skin. What you need is a poppy shade of eyeshadow—a vibrant colour that complements your skin tone. Go for shades that look rich like striking golds with oodles of glitter or like a bright fuschia that will look stunning on your eyes. If you’re opting for smokey eyes, play with blues and silvers.

BB recommends: The Lakmé Absolute Illuminating Eye Shadow Palette in Royal Persia

If you have fair skin...

If you have fair skin...

If you love the pastel palettes, you’re in luck because shades like soft pinks and minty colours look stunning on your eye lids. You can even apply eyeshadows that belong to the family of nudes—taupe or coffee toned shades will look subtle yet natural for a day look. For a night look, kohl-line your eyes and then wear a soft pink but glittery eyeshadow shade on your eyes to get a glitzy yet feminine look.

If you have a wheatish skin tone...

If you have a wheatish skin tone...

Love the marsala eyeshadow trend? Lucky for you ‘coz this is the kind of colour that will work wonderfully on your eyes. Think smokey burgundy eyes, dark greens, navy blues and sparkling browns—applying eyeshadows in these colours will surely keep your look vibrant. For a night look, opt for loads of glitter that will help you elevate the drama.

2017 Eyeliner trends all makeup gurus are going crazy about

2017 Eyeliner trends all makeup gurus are going crazy about

If there is one thing that brings your entire makeup look together, it is your eyeliner.

Makeup gurus around the globe have been experimenting with different eyeliner styles and giving us some quirky eyeliner trends to follow this year!

While choosing an eyeliner to replicate these trends, we suggest you choose our old, trust worthy friend, Lakmé’s 9 to 5 eyeliner because their eyeliners are really pigmented and long lasting. The packaging makes it easier to apply because the stick is thin and precise at the tip.

2017 has been full of eyeliner trends so far and these are some of our favorites…

Trend alert 1: Cartoon eyeliner

Trend alert 1: Cartoon eyeliner

When everyone’s favorite makeup YouTuber Nikkie filmed a tutorial on this, we instantly fell in love and so will you. Cartoon eyeliners are a fun way to add some quirk in your look when you don’t feel like dressing up. They are colorful, young and fresh!

Trend alert 2: Angelic white eyeliner

Trend alert 2: Angelic white eyeliner

After a white waterline, it’s time for white eyeliner. White eyeliners could add a softer touch to your overall makeup. You can experiment with this trend and try different white eyeliner looks like graphic white eyeliner or the classic winged white eyeliner.

Trend alert 3: Dotted eyeliner

Trend alert 3: Dotted eyeliner

Now, dotted eyeliner became a rage a couple of months ago but looks like make up gurus haven’t had enough of this trend. They are experimenting with dotted eyeliner to develop new eyeliner ideas like dotted kajal or dotted smokey wings to your regular eyeliner and we couldn’t be more excited.

Trend alert 4: Neon eyeliner

Trend alert 4: Neon eyeliner

How can you not love neon, right? The neon eyeliner trend like the cartoon eyeliner adds the perfect pop of color to your otherwise regular look.

BeBe tip: Wear the neon eyeliner with baby pink lips and let your hair down into light waves for the perfect summery, beach vacation look. Try the Elle 18 color pop matte lipstick in pink and instead of gliding it on, dab in gently on your lips for the perfect natural lip tint.

Trend alert 5: Studded eyeliner trend

Trend alert 5: Studded eyeliner trend

One of our personal favorites, this studded eyeliner trend is perfect for times you want to go all glam! It’ll make for a great birthday girl look, or a cocktail dinner look you can opt for stunning gold studded winged eyeliner instead of shimmery eye shadow.

BeBe tip: first go over with a layer of regular eyeliner so that you have a road map ready over which you can go ahead with your layer of studs. After the studs have been applied on the lids using eye glue, go over with another layer of the usual eyeliner to define and neaten it further.

Don’t forget to tag us in your pictures if you decide to replicate any of these stunning 2017 eyeliner styles!

TREND ALERT—MICROFEATHERING FOR YOUR BROWS

TREND ALERT—MICROFEATHERING FOR YOUR BROWS
It goes without saying that we’ve been obsessed with brows for a while now. Power brows, tapered brows, tattooed brows, wavy brows and microblading—it kinda seems like in the last two years, we could have invented a whole new directory as far as eyebrows go! And if you were under the impression that it couldn’t go any further, you’ll be surprised to know that microfeathering, a version of microblading, is the new trend all the A-listers are trying. Here’s everything you need to know about it before it takes over your Insta feed…

What is it?

What is it?

Microfeathering is a new brow grooming technique started by Kristie Streicher whose outcome is fuller, bushier, natural brows.

According to her website, the microfeathering process involves ‘depositing pigment superficially into the epidermis of the eyebrow’ and then ‘depositing it into the incisions to create incredibly natural appearing eyebrow hair.’

Where did it start?

Where did it start?

The trend was started by LA based beautician Kristie Streicher of ‘The Feathered Brow’ who’s the craftsperson behind some of Hollywood’s most famous brows—Adele, Mandy Moore and even Gwyneth Paltrow.

How is it done?

Since microfeathering is all about creating a natural look, Streicher insists that her clients stash their tweezers and grow their brows for a couple of months.
If you’ve been tweezing and doing your eyebrows since forever, this could even take a year.

Micro feathering brow grooming process

Next, Streicher takes a hard look at the natural shape of the brow and its growth.
Once she’s got that figured out, she begins the actual process of microfeathering that involves adding a few tiny hair strokes in the brow where required to create a natural and full looking eyebrow.

While microblading too uses the same technique, Streicher feels that it can often lead to a very neat looking brow which can turn out to have the same arch and shape for everyone who gets it done. Microfeathering on the other hand improvises on the native shape of one’s own brows thus making it distinctive and less artificial looking!

BB TREND ALERT: UPSIDE DOWN EYE MAKEUP
When it comes to eye makeup, things can go from intensely colourful to bold and bizarre. But the newest trend in makeup seems to be a bit of a twist but worry not, it’s not super edgy or OTT as the other eye makeup trends that have been doing the rounds. This one’s called upside down makeup and believe it or not, it’s taken over the beauty scene—be it in Hollywood or right here in India, at Lakmé Fashion Week. If you’re curious to know more on this trend, keep reading...

What is the upside down eye makeup trend?

What is the upside down eye makeup trend?

Love the smokey eye or that thick liner on your eyes? It’s time to shake things up and turn it into a reverse—wear the smokey eyes on the lower lash line. You can either use a thick pencil or an eyeshadow to create this dramatic look.

How is it done?

How is it done?

Get your hands on a pencil and eyeshadow for that much needed drama on the eyes. Start by lining the lower lash line. Next, rim below the lash line just a wee bit and then smudge out the pencil just a wee bit. Finally, use the same coloured eyeshadow and press it on the liner/pencil to darken the colour.

You can get a blue upside down eye makeup look using the Lakmé Absolute Precision Eye Artist Kajal, Sapphire Blue and the Lakmé Absolute Illuminating Eye Shadow Palette, Silver.

Where did we spot the trend?

Where did we spot the trend?

Lakmé Fashion Week! Coz c’mon there’s no better place to spot trend that the LFW runways. Who did it? Sanjay Garg’s opening show titled Cloud People had models wear dark upside down eye makeup—something that went beautiful with his couture.

5 easy ways to keep your under-eye concealer from creasing

5 easy ways to keep your under-eye concealer from creasing

Those devilish dark circles… the more you look at them in the mirror the more they seem to stare right back at you. Possibly the most frustrating beauty issue ever. We all know that concealer could so easily do the trick but the real magic lies in making sure there aren’t any creases, making you look like a scary puppet...

Looking your best isn’t easy but we’re here to let you in on a few secrets that get you there pretty quickly. So say goodbye to those puppet eyes and discover how to conceal that under-eye skin like a pro.

face oil keep your under eye concealer from creasing

  • Hydrate with a face oil

Did you know that one of the main reasons you get those annoying lines is because under-eye skin doesn’t produce as much oil as other areas on your face? So you need to make up for this by patting a little face oil (ring finger always) under the eyes and let it absorb for at least 10 minutes. Watch your skin slowly get smooth supple and almost radiant post hydration.
  • Apply it right

You know that applying makeup is an art. Concealer is no different. First draw a triangle underneath your eyes from the inner corner of your eyes, to the centre of your cheek and back up to the outer corner of your eyes. Then fill it in. Yup it’s that simple and will brighten up your whole under eye area!

blend your concealer to keep your under eye concealer from creasing

  • Don’t get caked!

Always remember to blend your concealer with a damp make-up sponge. If you don’t pick up the excess product, your under-eye skin will look caked and any lines will be that much more prominent.
  • Try a Setting Powder

So this is the secret potion that hotshot make-up artist Robin Siegel uses (He did the makeup for Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Coz and Lisa Kudrow for years on ‘Friends’). After applying your concealer, apply some setting powder, then press it gently over the under eye area to make it blemish-free! This is one magic ingredient you want to get your hands on ASAP.

blotting paper trick to keep your under eye concealer from creasing

  • The Blotting Paper trick

This one’s a really cool hack for creaseless, all-day concealer. After you’ve applied concealer, take a piece of blotting paper and dab the under skin area. This magically blots off any excess oil, leaving just the pigment behind which guarantees a lasting effect; simple, cheap and hassle-free. Write this one down in your list of best makeup tips ever.

Never thought you could master that perfect crease-free concealer look that we see on the red carpet? Well now you know what happens behind-the-scenes… Here’s to perfect, crease-free under eye skin forever!

Easy eyeliner hacks to do the perfect winged eyeliner

Easy eyeliner hacks to do the perfect winged eyeliner

May the wings of your eyeliner always be even. Amen!

Nailing the perfect winged eyeliner is no easy job and no matter how many different eyeliner tips we read online, when we are getting ready for a special occasion, for some reason the wings of our eyeliner decide to fly in two different directions!

But not anymore, ladies! Not after you read these really cool eyeliner hacks on nailing the perfect winged eyeliner.

Follow these easy winged eyeliner steps to get that perfect wing in just a few seconds.

How to get the perfect winged eyeliner…

Eyeliner Hack 1: Move in steps/dots

Eyeliner Hack 1: Move in steps/dots

If you aren’t used to doing winged eyeliner, an easy hack is to start by applying a thin layer of eyeliner in breaks and creating a rough road map using dots.

Once the basic dotted wing is ready, you can then make it neater by connecting the dots with a thicker outline. . It’s quite similar to the way we learned how to draw a straight line by first making dots and then joining them to get the perfect line. The perfect winged eyeliner is no less than a piece of art my ladies!

Eyeliner Hack 2: Outline and fill the wing!

Eyeliner Hack 2: Outline and fill the wing!

Another really easy eyeliner tip is to first start by drawing the wing. For this remember to stretch your eyelid first and then draw the outline of your wing. Then,  slowly extend the eyeliner into the inner corner of your eyes. Once the outline is ready, go ahead and fill that in!

Eyeliner Hack 3: Use a kajal pencil / eyeliner pen

Eyeliner Hack 3: Use a kajal pencil / eyeliner pen

Liquid and gel eyeliners can be tough to work with to get the perfect winged eyeliner.

Kajal and eyeliner pens on the other hand are easier when it comes to making an even eyeliner design. They don’t have as much shine as a liquid eyeliner does but you can always go over the rough roadmap you have created with your kajal pencil. When it comes to eyeliners, Lakmé really is the king. From experience, Lakmé’s liquid eyeliners are very shiny, dark and waterproof. Even their kajal pencils for that matter aren’t dull and instead are really bold and pigmented.

Eyeliner Hack 4: Use tapes to define your wings

Eyeliner Hack 4: Use tapes to define your wings

Now if you don’t have a steady hand, the above hacks might not still help you in achieving that perfect wing.

This one however will.

Use a transparent tape right in the corner of your eye where you want the wing. Place it diagonally  in such a way that it forms a wing outline which you can go ahead and fill in with your eyeliner.

Once the wing has been filled in and the eyeliner has dried, carefully remove the tapes. Move in a dotted fashion as stated in hack number 1 towards the inner corner of your eyelids to complete your perfect winged eyeliner.

Eyeliner Hack 5: Bring out those tweezers and sponges for a DIY eyeliner stamp!

Eyeliner Hack 5: Bring out those tweezers and sponges for a DIY eyeliner stamp!

This is by far the easiest and hands down the most creative way of nailing the perfect eyeliner look!

All you have to do is cut out a sponge in the shape of a triangle and dip it in a gel eyeliner or paint it with a liquid eyeliner. With the help of your tweezers, press the triangle sponge thus obtained in the outer corner of your eye to form a wing! It’s your very own DIY eyeliner stamp.

Sorry girls, but you will no longer be able to use your winged eyeliner as an excuse to be late to a party (we all are guilty of it!) because these hacks will help you get a sharp winged eyeliner in just a few seconds!

In the makeup world, anything is possible. So when we heard that upside down cat eyeliner was a thing, we were rather curious.
