Sugar is a great ingredient to be added to or to be used as a natural scrub, especially since this exfoliant has a granular texture. Similar to sugar, salt too has a texture which helps in the process of exfoliation but unlike salt, powdered sugar has smaller granules that do not leave microscopic cuts on the skin. In addition to that, unlike sugar which is a natural humectant, salt has a drying effect on the skin. Sugar, on the other hand, helps pull the moisture from the air into your skin.

White or Brown

Both, white and brown sugar, contain glycolic acid, an agent which aids in the faster regeneration of skin, leading to a youthful appearance. While white sugar is refined through various chemical processes, brown sugar is coloured naturally using molasses. Molasses or black treacle is a viscous product high in vitamin B6 and an antioxidant that also shields your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Brown sugar also has finer and smoother grains which help in the blending process. Compared to white sugar, brown sugar has more benefits to offer.
