Going monochromatic (the use of just one colour) has long been a popular trend in fashion. One-tone ensembles are considered smart and chic, instantly elevating your style game and making you look more ‘put together’. And by the looks of current trends in makeup, the beauty community is slowly embracing the monochrome vibe as well. Which is surprising because even though it might seem easier to just use colour for your eyes, cheeks and lips, in reality, it is trickier to get right. But, when you do, the resulting makeup look is high on drama, is statement-making and instantly distinctive from any other kind of look. Here are some ways you can try the monochromatic makeup trend for yourself!
01. Red explosion

Combining two trends in one, draping your eyeshadow all over your temples and matching it with a similarly pigmented red lipstick will give you an editorial look that makes even the most unbothered onlookers envious!
02. Feisty orange

Did you know that you can use a colourful pigmented eye pencil as a blush too? The coral fox eye look is created using a fiery orange colour swiped on the upper and lower lids. The same eye pencil can double up as a blush to give your that sunkissed look. A slightly darker shade of burnt orange on the lip finishes the look. Throw in some voluminous lashes to the mix and you’ve got yourself a feisty look right there.
03. Purple power

Deep and rich hues like purple, mauve and even red can satisfy your need to go loud with your makeup. We love how the tinted highlighter on the cheek matches the lids and lips. Skip the contour and play up your brows for an all glam look.
04. Soft peach love

On the minimal end of monochromatic makeup looks is this soft peach situation! Wear a pretty peach colour on your cheeks, lips and eyes, and swipe some on the nose to give your face a naturally flushed look.
05. Graphic monochromatic

Using matte monochromatic colours will give you a pop art look, especially if you combine it with quirky details like freckles and bold liner. We love the touch of black detailing on this red monochromatic look.
