When liquid lipsticks burst on to the beauty scene a few years ago, we had no idea that they will take over our lives so completely. They are the answers to a million prayers, as they last long and do not need touch-ups.

Having said that, there are a few things you need to keep in mind when you wear liquid lipsticks. We spoke to makeup artist, Simmy Goraya about what she does when she wears a liquid lippie.

Exfoliation is a must

Lips tend to get dry and flaky, and liquid lipsticks are unforgiving on dry lips. They emphasise the dryness and require a smooth, hydrated base to go on.

Prep your lips

To make sure your lips feel hydrated while wearing a liquid lipstick, prep your lips by using a lip balm, preferably one with SPF. Allow it to set for a minute and seal in the moisture.

Conceal your lips

Use a concealer to cover any pigmentation you might see on your lips. A neutral base will help the lip colour pop, and make it last much longer. Take a little concealer on your finger tip and dab and blend on your lips.

Lip liner is optional

The good thing with liquid lipsticks is that a lip liner is not a must. Liquid lipsticks have enough pigment and allow for precise application, so you can do away with a lip liner. Use the doe-foot applicator to shape your lips.

Nudes and corals are perfect for day looks, and if it a wedding or a party, go for reds, berry or maroon shades. A pink lip is versatile and lends well to any occasion. As a final step, dust a little highlighter on the Cupid’s bow and get ready to rock that lip!
