Let’s just agree matte lipsticks are sooo chic, but sooo drying. They do not glide on easily like satin formulas and highlight all the textures on your lips, making them look like they are cracking. This becomes a pain in the wrong place especially when the weather is cold and dry.

For all you die-hard matte lipstick fans out there, here are some ways to wear your favourite matte lippie!

Condition your lips

Every night, apply a thick layer of shea butter or Vaseline Pure Skin Jelly on your lips and right after brushing your teeth; gently run the tooth brush across your lips. This will remove the dead skin from your lips.

Apply DIY lip masks or scrubs for 15 minutes before you start getting ready. This will soften and condition your lips, and ready them for the matte lipstick! Mix some brown sugar with olive oil and apply this on your lips. Let it sit for 15 minutes, sip on some wine, and scrub away the dull skin from your lips!

Layer the lip balm

Come winter, clothes should not be the only thing you layer. Start layering you lip care products as well, if you want to wear matte lipsticks. Apply a light lip balm like the Lakmé Lip Love lip balm on your lips before applying the matte lipstick, but make sure you don’t apply it too thick.

Use liquid matte lipsticks

An alternative to using regular matte lipsticks is to use liquid matte lipsticks like Lakmé Absolute Matte Melt Liquid Lip Color, which are less drying than their tube counterparts. Their wand applicator also makes for precise application, letting you define your lips better!

Use a primer

Use a primer before you apply a matte lipstick. This will even out the lines on your lips and also offers a boost of moisture to your lips. If this wasn’t enough, using a primer will also ensure the lipstick lasts through the day!

Use a lip brush

Use a lip brush to apply the matte lipstick as this will ensure all the fine lines are filled and there is a better definition of the lips. In winter, it might be difficult to uniformly apply the lipstick because of dry lips. Using a lip brush will ensure even application.

Highlight for plumpness

After applying your favourite matte lipstick, dab a little highlighter at the centre of your lower lip. This will make your lip look plumper and fuller. This little bit of highlight will reduce the appearance of fine lines and dryness. For red and nude matte lipsticks use gold-toned highlighters and for pinks and mauves, use silver-toned highlighters.
