There’s a thin line between overlining and over-the-top lining. Once you know where to draw that line, you’ll be able to rock a natural-looking fuller pout like a pro.
Overlining without making your pout look unnatural is no easy feat. This lip lining technique requires practice, but not if we share our little lip-lining tricks with you. Try out these 5 steps to look pout-perfect.
Tip #1: Use a nude lip liner with the same undertones as your skin
If you want to softly cheat the line and make it look natural, then ditch dark toned lip liners. They will only make your pout look unnatural and funny. Instead, use a nude lip liner with the same undertones as your skin. For example, if you have pink undertones, then reach for a lip liner shade that has a slightly pink-ish hue.
Tip #2: Super sharp lip pencils are a big no-no
Unlike eyeliner, your lip pencil need not be super sharp and sleek. You may end up with an unnatural line if you use a really sharpened lip liner. In fact, a blunt pencil can work better when it comes to overlining your lips. It will blend easily onto your lips and give you a seamless finish.
Tip #3: Fill in your lips
Who says a lip liner is only to line the edges of your lips? In fact, filling in your lips with the colour is one of the best overlining tricks ever! You’ll be surprised to know that your lip liner not only acts as a base for your lipstick to stick to, but also ensures that your lips don’t look naked once your lipstick starts wearing off.
Tip #4: Go in with small strokes
With overlining, it’s all about practice, patience and precision. You don’t want to goof up in the middle of the application. Therefore, it’s best to start light. Use small, feathered strokes to outline your lips, instead of outlining in one go. If you’re not a pro, then there are chances you may end up ruining your pout. Going in slowly with a lighter hand will not only prevent harsh lines, but also minimise potential goof-ups.
Tip #5: Blending is key
Blending plays an important role in overlining too. You can either use a lip brush or your fingers to pat and melt the lip liner into your skin. Blending out the edges gently towards the inside of your lips will help soften the line, thereby making it look uber natural.
