5 simple ways to remove Holi colours from your nails safely

Holi hai guys! And while we are sure you’ve already gotten into the festive spirit, don’t forget to take special care of your hair and skin before and after the festival. The toxic and dry colours are not just harmful but also, have the power to bring your beauty game down.

Apart from your skin and hair, your nails also suffer during holi. They are often forgotten or not given equal attention. But remember ladies, it is important to care for your nails as much as the rest of your body. The Holi colours can wreak a havoc to your nails as your hands are continuously dipped in the coloured water for a good 5-6 hours. But, fret not! We’ve got you covered with a few easy-peasy nail care tips that’ll remove the stubborn colours from your nails, thereby leaving them white and shiny once again...

Scrubbing rigorously is a strict no-no

Scrubbing will only worsen the condition of your nails. The more you rub, the deeper the colour will seep. So, completely avoid rubbing or scrubbing your hands and nails harshly. Instead, be a little patient and first cleanse your entire body and keep nails for the end.

Soak your hands in cold water

The Holi colours can make your nails brittle and dull-looking. And we are sure you can’t wait to get the colour off your nails as soon as you’re back home. But be careful to not soak your hands in hot water. Hot water will make the colour stick to your nails rather than doing the opposite. Always use room temperature or cold water to soak your nails.

Lemon is the best home-remedy

Yellowing of nails is a common phenomenon, especially post Holi. To whiten your nails, you need lemon juice to your rescue. All you need to do is fill a bowl with lemon juice and soak your nails in it for about 10 minutes. Lemon juice is an effective bleaching agent that will not only treat yellow nails but also clean stains from your nails. That’s not all! Lemon juice also helps strengthen brittle nails and makes them less prone to breakage.

Transparent nail polish hack

Here’s another easy-peasy way of removing the toxic and stubborn Holi colours from your nails. All you need to do is apply a coat of transparent nail polish and dunk your fingers into a bowl of lukewarm water. Add a few drops of almond oil to it and you’ll see the colour coming off easily.

Even before you step out to play Holi, paint your nails with a dark polish. Using a lighter shade will absorb colour, so avoid that. You can pick one of these - Lakmé 9 to 5 Primer + Matte Nail Color – Charcoal or Lakmé True Wear Nail Color - N525. A darker shade won’t allow the colour to stick to your nails and keep them clean all through the day.
