And these weren’t any ordinary trends that we chanced upon. These were bold, experimental and frankly, ones we never expected to make their way on the red carpet. But nevertheless, they left us please and we can’t wait to spill the beans on these extraordinary beauty sightings that we spotted!
The Mullet

We were used to seeing David Bowie and Billy Ray Cyrus rock the hairstyle way back in the 70’s but in 2016? That would take some getting used to. Zendaya went all out with an androgynous tuxedo suit, which she completed with a mullet hairdo; a fluffy cropped style in front which descended into sleek ombre layers at the back. While she definitely toed the line on this look, we bet that no one can pull off the popular hairstyle with just as much elan.
Septum Ring

Sure, we’ve acclimated ourselves to goth influences from time to time but on the red carpet? Now that is a feat! The septum ring, which is borrowed from the culture, has been making headway as the latest fashion trend for women across social media. The wild child that Swedish singer Tove Lo is, makes her the ideal candidate to pull off the bold accessory. Pairing it with a dark yet clean style of a lacy number and bronze washed eyes, it’s safe to say that Tove really knows how to make a statement.
Blunt Bob

If 2015 was the year of the bob, then 2016 is the year when we see variations of it. From waves to asymmetrical layers, we thought we had seen it all until the blunt bob resurged at the Grammys 2016. Taylor Swift debuted a prim blunt bob with neat bangs which made for an elegant addition to her outfit. Carrie Underwood isn’t prominently featured on the red carpet but her sleek blonde bob made sure that this was her moment. She paired the chic hairdo with a black smokey and a dazzling diamond and ruby necklace.
Boxer Braids

If we had to pick a trend that is both functional yet pretty, boxer braids would be it. Popularized through Million Dollar Baby and more recently, through celebrities like Rita Ora and Hailey Baldwin, the boxer braid is a hair trend that we’re always pleased to see. It came as a surprise when singer Janelle Monae braided her hair in the style and paired it with an achromatic ensemble and a tiny top hat. Probably the most fierce way to bring braids to the Grammy red carpet, we say!
Embellished Eyes

There are some red carpet appearances that are predictable and then there is a Lady Gaga. Post her glittering Super Bowl appearance, Gaga went on to dial up the glitz as she wore an embellished pair of intricate blue peepers to the Grammys. As a tribute to David Bowie she paired the shining eyes with a fiery red mane and an embroidered suit honouring his look in the Life On Mars video. What a sparkling way to honour the legendary Ziggy Stardust!
Sleek Ponytail

Before you think that ponytails were strictly reserved for bad hair days, the red carpet at the Grammys 2016 begs you to think again. We spotted the ‘do as a red carpet hairstyle in great numbers as it accompanied suave suits and sexy gowns. Ponytail aficionado Ariana Grande wore her ombre hair in a sleek high ponytail, pairing well with her red hot gown. Kacey Musgraves peacocked in a violet toned thread work gown while putting up her jet black hair in a smooth ponytail, giving her a sophisticated flair.
