When Day 2 of Lakme Fashion Week was announced as Sustainable Fashion and Indian Textiles day, we expected a sea of handloom fabrics and traditional makeup. But when it was finally showtime, boy, were we in for a surprise! The garments might have been contemporary but the beauty looks were radical! From scarf intertwined updos to lip art, the makeup and hairstyles were a breath of fresh air on the catwalk. Here are our favourites…

Striking lips at 1955 Kallol Datta

Striking lips at 1955 Kallol Datta

Complementing the collection of airy garments at Kallol Datta’s show was an almost bare makeup look, except for one striking element, the lip. Over matte skin, the cheeks were bronzed to perfection with thick brows and defined lashes. However, it was the lip art that got us talking. The brown spot on the centre of the lower lip over nude lipstick lent an edge to the finished face.

Faux freckles at Three

Faux freckles at Three

The trend of celebrating imperfection with the inclusion of freckles as part of a look has taken over the west and now, it is here at Lakmé Fashion Week! Along with a multiple bun hairstyle, the face saw a smattering of faux freckles over the cheeks and nose. In addition, wispy eyelashes and a matte nude lip accompanied the look that celebrated natural beauty.

Eye catcher at Anavila

Lending a chic touch to Anavila’s stunning Indian wear was eye makeup that had us besotted in an instant. Over a naturally finished face, it was a triangular graphic eyeliner look that got our attention. Along with subtle pink lips, the design on the eyes gave the collection a contemporary touch and ticked all our boxes!

lakme absolute illuminating lip shimmer in copper spark

As part of the Made In Assam segment of the day, the label Naturally Anuradha complemented crisp ethnic wear with a delightfully bohemian scarf braid. Featured alongside dewy skin and subtly shimmering lip, it was the updo that took centre stage. The bohemian tinged hairstyle consisted of a scarf intertwined in a braid around the hairline. What’s not to like about the refreshing and girly style!

An intense spark at Raw Mango

An intense spark at Raw Mango

When Sanjay Garg’s creations arrived on the ramp, we knew that edgy had just been redefined. The beauty look was intense and deep, proving to be the perfect juxtaposition for the collection. For the show, a slicked back half bun was the hairstyle of choice. In the makeup department, illuminated skin was dressed with an exaggerated brown eye shadow and a bare lip with a burgundy line. Certainly a fierce way to bring day 2 to a close!
