You're one of the most celebrated makeup artists in the country. Tell us about your big break and how has the journey been so far?

Bianca: I started off with a double major in chemistry and food technology and wanted to set up a wellness centre post-graduation, but destiny took another turn and landed me into the world of entertainment. I soon went on to become a model and then a VJ with a popular music channel. Post veejaying I went on to become a flight attendant and shopping in destinations such as London, New York and Singapore lured me each time, especially when it came to makeup. Whilst watching TV one day, my late dad said to me, “Why don’t you learn makeup?” And that was the beginning of my exciting love story with makeup! I have honed my skills under the tutelage of over 50 internationally renowned makeup artists, including Val Garland, Pati Dubroff, Mario Dedivanovic, Sir John, Alex Box, Bobbi Brown, Romero Jennings, Kristofer Buckle and Kabuki, among others. My makeup career received an illustrious start with Manish Malhotra and Shahab Durazi’s collections at India Couture Week. I am proud to have been the official Makeup and Hair Designer for Femina Miss India and Miss India Universe from 2015 to date.

You're also a super sought after bridal MUA. Tell us about your go-to look for your brides.

Bianca: Luckily the brides who call in for their makeup enquiries are the ones who have been through each and every picture of mine on Instagram, which depict a minimal luminous skin finish look. I have always told my brides — “I want people to tell you your skin looks great, rather than tell you that your makeup looks great.” And hence my endeavour is to perfect a dewy skin finish look for my brides — a look that lasts them all through a long evening of dancing until the wee hours of the morning, one that stands true all through an emotional bout which is bound to happen.

Since the focus is going to be the eyes, what are some statement eye makeup looks brides can opt for?

Bianca: I always use beautiful earthy tones/taupe and rust for the eyes/soft brown smokey eyes/dull antique golds. These eyeshadow shades look really lovely on all Indian skin tones. Using waterproof mascara is definitely a must-do for the upper and lower lashes. Well-defined, yet natural-looking brows tamed using a transparent brow gel or soap is something that always works.

What are five makeup products that every bride needs to have in her makeup kit?

Bianca: Primer, makeup fixer, lipstick, waterproof kohl and translucent pressed powder.

Since masks are a bridal accessory now, what hairstyles would look best with it?

Bianca: I would say messy ponytails so that your hair is away from your face but any hairstyle that one would prefer is absolutely fine to do as long as it has you with your mask on! 5 must-have products in your emergency bridal beauty kit?

Bianca: Eyelash glue, blotting paper, Q tips, eye drops, numbing cream for those heavy but stunning earrings that you are going to be adorning yourself with.

Some advice for brides-to-be when choosing a look for their big day?

Bianca: Remember that your pictures are for posterity; hence, do not follow fads or passing trends. You would want to be able to frame your wedding pictures and go back to look at them from time to time. Hence, it is important to create timeless looks. Additionally, you would want to love all your pictures and let yourself be YOU!

What are some of the biggest beauty mistakes Indian brides tend to make?

Bianca: You want the man you are to be married to be able to recognise you for who you are and hence changing yourself into something you are not is not what I advise. Avoid asking your makeup artist to create hair and makeup looks that do not feel like yourself or make you feel really uncomfortable. You are already so beautiful, enhancing your beautiful features is what you need. Natural-looking real hair extensions only for a bit of volume is a good idea.

Congratulations on Code beauty. Tell us about your brand and the inspiration behind it.

Bianca: There has been a glaring gap in hygiene in the beauty industry whilst using beauty tools and make-up products. This motivated me to conceptualize the cosmetic sanitising label, Code Beauty. With uniquely formulated cosmetic sanitizers, antibacterial cosmetic sanitising wipes, and hand-poured cleansing balms for brushes and sponges, the label ensures that beauty and hygiene needn’t be mutually exclusive.
