There are a couple of ways you can put together a makeup look for the festive season. You either have a couple of classic looks lined up — like a red lip and kohled eyes — that look good with everything. OR, you wanna show off your makeup skills and a new buy, and design a makeup look around that. While any approach is acceptable as long as you like the end result, we know an easy way out that will not only help you pick a makeup look, but also leave no room for error. The trick is simple… just match your makeup look with the dominant colour of your outfit and voila, you have yourself a truly stunning glam moment. We rounded up a couple of desi ensembles with matching makeup looks to help you out for any last minute Diwali makeup needs...

Baby pinks, or powder pinks, are quite popular with the younger crowd, on Diwali! For this colour, opt for lightly blushed cheeks, a matte pink lip, lightly pigmented lids and subtle contouring. Add drama with some highlighter on the apple of your cheeks, bridge of the nose and the center of your chin.

Ivory has been a trending aesthetic in Indian wear for a while and we totally get why — they are a fresh break from bright colours and look so smart. The makeup look for this colour is equally charming; shimmery silver lids paired with a glowing complexion, glossy nude lips, minimal blush and neatly filled in brows.

A bright orange ensemble might be a bit tricky to match with a flattering makeup look. We suggest your balance out the colours by going for a light coral lippie and velvety pink eye look. Contour with some bronzer and you are good to go!

Full disclosure, one of the biggest reasons why we’d pick a red outfit for Diwali is just so we can do a bold, red lip with it! Red pouts have a charm to them when paired with red ensembles, there is no denying that. Maybe even switch it up with wine lips, and a neatly drawn liner to add the finishing touches.

For such a happy colour like yellow, add a pop of the warm shade to your eye makeup. Whether you are blending it with a deeper peach or leaving it as the sole shadow, it’s on you. Finish up with a light pink pout and minimal blush. You can even go for shimmery gold lids to pair with your yellow outfit.
