A new year brings with it new trends galore. And 2019 was no different! We saw a wave of beauty trends surface this past year, some hits and some misses. But no, we’re not complaining!
We love how 2019 introduced us to the world of colour in makeup. From bright pinks and greens to yellows and purples, we never thought we’d be using such vibrant hues to dress up our eyes. Well, lesson learnt: never say never!
Before the curtain goes down on 2019, here’s a look back at our favourite makeup trends from the year gone by.
- Monochrome makeup
- Bright colours
- Glitter accents
- Fresh, glowing skin
- Inner corner art
- Rose gold cheeks
In 2019, we learnt the modern way of wearing good old blush. It’s called blushadow, a makeup trend where you extend your blush on the upper sides of your face towards your temples.
Thanks to celebrities like Rihanna, Kristen Stewart and Aditi Rao Hydrai, blushadow became a wearable trend by the end of the year and made it to our favourites’ list too!
From Kiara Advani to Shraddha Kapoor, B-town actresses made monochrome makeup look oh-so bomb in 2019. Earlier, we used bright colours either on our lids or lips. But the monochrome makeup trend is all about using one colour all over: lids, lips and cheeks! It’s a fun way of taking your makeup game a notch up.
2019 was all about including vibrant colours in your makeup. From runways to red carpets, colourful eye makeup was the highlight of almost every event. This trend gave makeup maximalists a chance to experiment with their makeup game.
Big takeaway: A single swipe of blue, green or purple eyeliner can instantly up your glamour quotient!
Glitter was never this big! For all those who’ve been toying with the idea of using glitter in their makeup, this year was definitely a treat for you. Take inspiration from celebrities like Kriti Kharbanda, Bhumi Pednekar, Shilpa Shetty and Priyanka Chopra, and let glitter accents make your party makeup look statement-worthy.
Fresh, glowing skin
While everyone went OTT with their eye makeup, face makeup took a minimalistic turn in 2019. We all desired the lit-from-within glow, which made your face look fresh as a daisy.
From celebrities to beauty ninjas, everyone ditched the matte look for a dewy finish. And we wouldn’t mind taking this trend to 2020!
Inner corner art
Inner corner highlight is the best example of how little things make a huge impact. When it comes to tying your eye makeup together, inner corner highlight is the one extra step that can do the trick for you. And now, more and more makeup artists are using this trick to add more definition to the eyes.
After you’re done applying eyeshadow, reach for your highlighter or a shimmery pigment and go over with it on the inner corner of your eyes. Voila!
Rose gold cheeks
Gone are the days when everyone wore oodles of blush in pink and peach tones to add a rosy glow to their cheeks. This past year, we’ve seen actresses ditch pink blush for a more earthy tone such as rose gold.
Rose gold blush easily blends in with your skin tone and at the same time adds a subtle glow to your cheeks.
