What was 2018 as a year for makeup? It was a year of more is more. Hi-vis highlighters, metallic lips and fluorescent makeup ruled the runways and reality alike. Makeup took a turn down the less trodden alley and explored new avenues. Here is a round-up of all the makeup trends we saw, loved, tried, aye-d and nay-d this past year.
- Golden highlighters
- Body luminisers
- Inner corner highlights
- Blue eye makeup
- No-makeup makeup
- Monochrome makeup
- Purple makeup
- Negative eye liner
- Fluorescent eyeliner
- Glitter everything
It was the year of highlighters. Golden pigments were used to strobe and uplift facial features.
Along with face highlighters came the trend of highlighting the body as well, and to good effect.
Inner corner highlights
Who knew a dot of highlighter dabbed on the inner corner of the eye could elevate your makeup game so much! We love!
Blue eye makeup
Electric blue makeup had its moment in the limelight this year. This is a dramatic twist to the classic black smoky eye.
The au naturel look made the rounds and we were all for it! Brushed out brows, dewy skin and a clear gloss on the lips were all the rage!
We can totally get behind this trend! Use makeup from the same shade range on your eye and your lips for this neat, coordinated look.
After green and red, purple is having a moment as the new ‘it’ colour. Try this attractive smoke show in this sultry colour.
Negative eye liner
This is where you apply two lines of your liner and with some negative space in between the two.
The louder the better! Use bright colour to line your eyes. Want to try something different? Try the underliner and line only your lower lash in a bright colour!
We love glitter in all its forms, and this is one trend we don’t mind carrying into the New Year. Add glitter to your eyes, your lips or even on your cheeks to have people say, ‘Damn girl!!’
