We often go to extreme lengths to take care of our skin. Skincare is a booming industry and at some point of time, we’ve all been swayed to purchase some or the other product in the hopes that we get clear, glowing skin.

Absolutely clear and healthy skin is as rare as hen’s teeth. We’ve chugged down litres of water in the anticipation of healthy skin, only to find the outcome to not be as brilliant as we’d expected.

We’d hoped our teenage years would be the last that we’d see of acne and breakouts. It couldn’t have turned out to be further from the truth. We’ve all had our fair share of breakouts and continue to do so still. From home remedies to expensive products, we have probably tried it all and to no avail.

Celebrities, though, have managed to taken their attempts to a whole new level. Here are five bizarre celebrity skin care routines that seem to have gone a tad bit too far:
Vampire facial:

Vampire facial:

Kim Kardashian is known for turning heads and has broken the internet many a time before, always having something or the other up her sleeve. Although her obsession with corsets was already known to us, this time she’s managed to leave us completely dumbfounded, with her vampire facial.

What in the good heavens (or in the underworld) a vampire facial could be, you might ask. That’s exactly what had us wondering as well!

In layman’s terms, this facial involves using your own blood to help promote the health of your skin. It is painless though, the treatment beginning with venepuncture, followed by micro-needling. Although a pricey affair, this treatment is great for people facing premature wrinkles.

For all its benefits, we think we’ll pass this one.

Bird faeces?

Bird faeces?

This unorthodox beauty treatment has been employed by none other than the former Spice girl, Victoria Beckham.

While bird droppings are perceived to be a sign of good luck in some cultures, Victoria Beckham is pretty much stepping up the game.

This treatment stems from Japan and utilizes the excrement of the Japanese Nightingale to exfoliate and purify the skin. This treatment is perhaps the reason why she looks like she hasn’t aged in years.

And while we love healthy, glowing skin, we aren’t so sure that we’d like bird faeces smeared onto our bodies. This one’s a pass as well!

Caviar:

Caviar:

When you think of caviar, you think of an amazing dinner party. Well, the gorgeous Angelina Jolie for one, doesn’t seem to think likewise.

Angelia Jolie has been known to rub caviar onto her skin to achieve that ageless look. Along with rubbing caviar, she also relies on fish egg extracts to keep her skin firm and youthful.

We certainly cannot fathom using such expensive foods as skincare products though.

Red wine:

Red wine:

Terri Hatcher is well known for her ageless look and this former Bond girl doesn’t mess around when it comes to skincare.  Hatcher loves to take a dip in wine baths. According to her, it helps soften and exfoliate her skin.

So if you aspire to look like her, it is time you took out that bottle of wine and poured it into the bathtub. We’ll pass though.

Bee venom mask:

Not even the Duchess of Cambridge can resist the impulse to experiment. An excellent alternative to Botox, this treatment helps reverse the aging process.

Beauty demands sacrifice and pain. Undergoing this treatment is no walk in the park, but it does promise anti-aging skincare without having to go under the knife. If you have sensitive skin though, this procedure is an absolute no-no.
