Our skin is constantly exposed to dirt, pollution and environmental aggressors. They settle deep inside the pores and cause the skin to lose its natural oils, making it dry and rough. Cleansing only removes the surface dirt; if you want to get rid of every bit of the dirt settled in your skin, it is necessary to exfoliate.
Sugar scrubs are probably the most affordable, effective and easily available scrubs out there. The best part – you can use it on any part of your body, including the face, lips and body. However, if you are making a DIY sugar scrub, it is important to know what ingredients to use and how to exfoliate each area.
Mix two tablespoons of brown sugar with one tablespoon coconut oil and half teaspoon vanilla extract in a bowl. Gently massage your face using this mixture for 2-3 minutes in upward, circular motions to get rid of dead skin cells. Rinse with lukewarm water. Pat dry and apply a moisturiser.

Using a body scrub is quite simple; you can exfoliate your skin before going for a shower or while you’re already in there. Take a generous amount of scrub and massage it into your skin. Apply it using back and forth motions and pay more attention to rougher areas such as your knees, elbows, ankles and the feet. Dead skin gets easily accumulated here and exfoliating these areas will correct uneven texture and make your skin smooth. Mix equal amounts of brown sugar and olive oil, and add a few drops of your favourite essential oil. Once you get a thick, scrub like consistency, store it in a jar and use once a week.
Exfoliating your lips regularly will help get rid of dead skin and give you smooth, plump lips. Mix a teaspoon of brown sugar, honey, coconut oil and scrub your lips for a few minutes. Let it stay for a few more minutes and wipe it off to reveal fresh and kissable lips.
