We all know that keeping our hands clean, wearing a mask and social distancing are a few ways to prevent ourself from the coronavirus outbreak. People all across the world have stocked up and are using hand sanitizers like never before. Even while you are safe at home, it is important to wash your hands regularly and use a sanitizer.
Did you know, in order for your sanitizer to be able to fight the COVID-19 virus, it needs to be really effective? Now, how do you find out if the sanitizer you are using is effective or not? Here’s how:
- Should not be a home-made sanitizer
- Should contain at least 60% alcohol
- Should not leave your hands feeling greasy after use
- Should not completely dry out your hands
Should not be a home-made sanitizer
The shortage or sanitizers have made people come up with DIY solutions. There are a lot of videos doing the rounds about making sanitizers at home. Here’s an advice: do not fall for it. You will only waste your time and efforts because these sanitizers are definitely not effective and won’t clean your hands.
Should contain at least 60% alcohol
Alcohol is an important ingredient in your hand sanitizer, so don’t forget to check the label for terms like ethyl alcohol, ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. The percentage of alcohol in your sanitizer should be anything between 60% and 95% to effectively fight germs and viruses. Anything below 60% is pretty much useless.
Should not leave your hands feeling greasy after use
After using a sanitizer if your hands still feel greasy or visibly dirty then sorry to break this to you, but you need to replace your sanitizer. Having said that, if your hands get oily from eating or soiled while doing some household chore, it is best to rub your hands with soapy water for 20 seconds and then rinse them off with warm water.
Should not completely dry out your hands
While the alcohol content in sanitizers is essential to ward off bacteria and germs, this high percentage can also make your hands dry. Pick a hand sanitizer that contains nourishing ingredients like vitamin E to prevent excessive dryness.
The Lifebuoy Hand Sanitizer contains 95% alcohol which effectively kills bacteria on your hands. Infused with the nourishing goodness of vitamin E, it prevents hands from dryness too.
