Whether you are a water baby or developing an interest towards under water exercise due to the soaring temperature, water aerobics is a lot of fun. Who doesn’t like burning calories and increasing flexibility while having fun with their girl pals in the pool? However, the fun might end a little too soon if you don’t prep your skin before stepping in the pool.

Here’s everything you should do before your water aerobics session...

Cleanse skin

Cleanse skin

Remove every trace of makeup and oil from your face before jumping in the pool. When chlorine comes in contact with makeup or other chemicals it can cause skin problems and allergies. Carry a gentle cleanser or makeup removing wipes in your bag to avoid contacting as well as spreading skin problems.

Take a shower

Take a shower

A quick shower is mandatory at most public swimming pools. Even if it isn’t at yours, make it a good hygiene practice and save yourself from several skin issues. Taking a shower with non-chlorinated water ensures your skin and hair absorb less chlorinated water from the swimming pool. Wetting your body before entering the pool also creates a barrier on your skin and lowers the risk of skin irritation and allergies.

Apply moisturiser

Apply moisturiser

Chlorinated water can leave your skin feeling dry and dull, therefore develop a habit to apply moisturiser and ensure your skin stays healthy. Other than preventing skin dryness, a layer of moisturiser also forms a protective barrier on your skin, keeping skin irritations and dryness at bay.

Never skip sunscreen

Never skip sunscreen

Using or not using sunscreen when outdoors should never be a question. Whenever your skin is exposed to the sun it is necessary to have a protective layer of sunscreen, even when you are cooling off in the pool. Slather on sunscreen 15 minutes prior to your water aerobics session, this will give your skin enough time to absorb the sunblock and ensure that it works effectively.
