Besan and neem

Besan and neem

An oldie, but a goodie—besan is a miracle when it comes to skin. From reducing acne to rejuvenating dull and dry skin, it does it all! When combined with the anti-microbial nature of neem, acne doesn’t stand a chance. Any lingering whiteheads or inflammations will be as good as gone.

Making the mask:

Mix together one tablespoon of dried neem powder and besan each. Then, stir in one tablespoon of yoghurt and mix thoroughly. Once a thick paste is formed, apply it on the face and let it rest for around 10-15 minutes before rinsing off with water.

Honey and cinnamon

It may be hard to believe that something as delicious as honey is good for the skin, but it can be trusted to make our skin problems a distant memory. Honey and cinnamon work together to kill the bacteria that causes inflammation of the pores, thus significantly reducing redness and acne.

Making the mask:

Combine two tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon together until a paste consistency is reached. This mixture can be applied to individual blemishes or the entire face depending on your preference and needs. Let it sit on the face for about 30 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water.

Yoghurt and banana

Yoghurt and banana

Who would have thought that yoghurt, our favorite breakfast staple could become a staple for our skin? Containing lactic acid, yoghurt is a natural exfoliator. By dissolving dead cells on the surface of the skin, it limits the occurrence of breakouts and also reduces wrinkles and lines. When combined with banana, which is filled with antioxidants, it creates a face mask that works wonders for the skin.

Making the mask:

Mash one ripe banana and add to it one tablespoon of yoghurt. Then, add one teaspoon of honey and lemon juice each and stir until a paste is formed. Apply this on your face for about 15 minutes before rinsing off with water.

Baking soda

You might have done a double-take when you saw this one, but trust us, baking soda is a great way to ensure that your skin becomes clear and smooth. This removes the dirt and sebum from deep within the pores of the skin, thus unclogging it.

Making the mask:

Mix one tablespoon of baking soda and honey each and half a tablespoon of lemon juice together. Apply this blend on clean skin and let it stay for 20-30 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Note: This mask may not be suitable for very sensitive skin as baking soda is quite strong.

Turmeric

Turmeric

This powerful spice is as rich in antioxidants as it is in flavour. Turmeric also has anti-inflammatory properties that work to calm the skin, and  give it that healthy glow we all dream of.

Making the mask:

Mix one teaspoon of turmeric, yoghurt and honey each and whisk till it reaches a viscous consistency. Apply this on the face and leave it for 20-30 minutes. Once it has dried off, take it off with a damp cloth.
