The festive season is just around the corner, which means it's time to get your festive glow on! While you can turn to makeup to hide your late-night binge-watching sessions and sleepless nights spent on Facetime with bae, but if you don’t care for your skin and spend time pampering it, even the best of makeup products won’t be able to give you that envious festive glow.
But fret not, there's still enough time to improve your skin’s texture and brighten your skin’s complexion for that lit-from-within glow in all your festive selfies. Wondering how? Well, we got Dr Niketa Sonavane of Ambrosia Aesthetics, Mumbai to give us her expert tips on how to prep the skin for the festive season. Here's what you should be doing ASAP!
- 01. Cleanse your gut
- 02. Exfoliate your skin
- 03. Skin health supplements
- 04. Try a medi-facial
- 05. Break a sweat
01. Cleanse your gut

“Glowing skin begins with a healthy gut. When your gut is unhealthy, it cannot absorb nutrients correctly and your skin looks dull. Research has proved that the gut microbiome affects skin health. Add foods such as curd, buttermilk, dhokla, idli or even some good old pickle to your diet. Cut down on refined carbohydrates which cause gut inflammation and opt for natural stevia over other sweeteners,” suggests Dr Sonavane.
02. Exfoliate your skin

Apart from following a CTM routine religiously, you must also exfoliate your skin using a gentle exfoliator from time to time. “It is recommended to exfoliate during a warm bath and avoid harsh exfoliating scrubs that can give rashes. Coffee grounds or rice bran work very well in imparting a healthy glow.” The Dermalogica Mini Daily Microfoliant contains rice bran extracts and is so gentle that you can use it everyday to get clear and healthy skin.
03. Skin health supplements

Sad truth: Despite following a healthy diet, your body is unable to absorb all the necessary nutrients and vitamins required to keep the skin looking its best. But worry not, Dr Sonavane has a solution for that too. She says, “Every girl wants skin that glows from within. You can easily achieve this with the right supplements. Start with antioxidants, ceramides, glucosamine or vitamin C supplements at least two weeks ahead of the festive season. These supplements make sure that your skin is well hydrated, protected and repaired from deep within.” BRB, heading to the pharmacy to stock up.
04. Try a medi-facial

If you want quick and long-lasting results, Dr Sonavane suggests trying medi-facials. “Medi-facials are skin nourishing and repairing treatments that are available with leading dermatologists. The sessions are usually customized to infuse your skin with glow-boosting, skin purifying and soothing ingredients in a safe and clinical manner. Hydrafacial, Aquagold facial and Vampire facial are the most sought after medi-facials for the festive season,” she says.
05. Break a sweat

No matter how strict a diet you’re on, come festive season and you’ll find yourself hogging on those yummy sweets and rich food. To ensure you don’t end up guilt-tripping post your binge, start exercising before the festive season begins. “Not only will you be fitter to flaunt those curves, but also the feel-good hormones make the festive season much more enjoyable! Your daily sweat routine also draws out toxins from your body and gives you smooth and glowing skin all over,” says Dr Sonavane.
