Fruit extracts are the hero ingredients in a number of skincare products, thanks to their moisturising, nourishing and detoxifying properties. But did you know their peels are as effective as the scrumptious fruit itself? Fruit peels are the unsung heroes of the skincare world that can help you fix your skin woes and get healthy skin. So, the next time you’re throwing away peels of these three fruits, save and use them.

Banana peel

Banana peel

Banana is a hydrating fruit that heals your dry skin and moisturises it, but its peel has many benefits for your skin. Rich in antioxidants and minerals, banana peels can rid your skin of acne and signs of ageing. Rub the clean peel on your face for five to seven minutes and rinse. To reduce puffiness around the eyes, keep the peel in the freezer for about half an hour and place it on the under eye area for 10 minutes.

Orange peel

Orange peel

High in vitamin C, orange peel reduces acne and lightens marks. Rub an orange peel on the affected area. Another way to use the orange peel is to make an anti-acne face mask. Grind the peel of one orange and soaked masoor lentils into a fine paste. Apply it on your face and let it sit for 20 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water, pat dry and moisturise.

Papaya peel

Papaya peel

Papaya has brightening properties and so does its peel. Packed with concentrated AHA and an enzyme called papain, papaya peel can give you brighter, younger-looking skin. It acts as an exfoliator and removes dead skin cells, brightens your complexion, lightens pigmentation and dark spots and gives you even-toned and glowing skin. Scrape the pulp out, and rub the peel all over your face and rinse.
