Just when you thought you were getting familiar with the concepts and routines of K beauty, a new kid on the block named J beauty has arrived to add to the confusion. In the past few years K beauty has created a niche for itself and gained popularity among beauty enthusiasts worldwide. What appeared to be a passing trend has now become one of the most loved skin care routines. Its Japanese counterpart J beauty seems to do the same.

So here’s a low-down on the A B C’s of K Beauty vs. J Beauty

Korean beauty is best known for its elaborate 10, 12 and 15 step skin care routines. It is said that when followed religiously this skin care routine can bless you with the popular “glass skin.” However, if you actually break down this skin care routine you will notice that K-beauty is all about several layers of hydration. Apart from the regular cleansing, toning and moisturising, K-beauty includes several more steps of serums, emulsions and sheet masks. No doubt each of this step targets your skin concerns like aging, uneven skin, dullness etc. but at the same time also adds a surge of moisture to the skin.

Japanese beauty does not involve elaborate steps, instead the approach is to simplify skin care routine by including products that deliver more and address more than just one issue. Their double cleansing night routine not only removes dirt and makeup from the skin but it also prevents dryness. While exfoliation is an important part of J-beauty, they believe it should be done gently with fingertips or facial rollers. They use lighter textures like gels, emulsions and milk which are easily absorbed by the skin yet are potent enough to address skin concerns.
