Summer is synonymous to sweaty, oily skin and this is precisely why your skin needs some extra TLC during summer. Especially the skin of your underarms and thighs. While all of us are prompt at taking care of the skin on our face and body, more often than not, we forget about our vaginal skin.
Our vaginas need as much care as our face, especially during summer. Wearing skinny jeans, sitting in the same position for long hours, or damp undergarments; are some of the main reasons why your vagina needs extra care.
Here are some simple ways to help you keep your vaginal skin healthy and infection free...
The first step towards ensuring vaginal health during summer is to switch your synthetic underwear with a cotton one. Avoid wearing thongs as they can rub against your skin and cause irritation along the bikini line.
Don’t wear tight clothes
Your vagina is going to sweat and while this is something that happens throughout the year, the summer months are the worst. Wearing tight shorts or super tights jeans, restricts the airflow to the vaginal area making it difficult to breathe. It is best to wear breathable clothing, especially for your lower half as it will feel cooler, refreshing, and will give your vagina the chance to air out instead of harbouring all of that bacteria.
Avoid using harsh soaps
Your vagina is self-cleansing hence, you don’t need extra products. All of us love stepping out of the shower smelling like a garden of roses, but harsh scents, chemicals and perfumes can harm your delicate parts and affect the pH balance. These chemicals can dry out the skin and douching can flush all the good bacteria out.
Wash your towel regularly
Using a towel that has not been washed and sanitized in a while puts you at the risk of vaginal infections. Towels are the breeding ground of bacteria and washing them regularly can help avoid vaginal infections and UTIs.
If you need a reason to sleep commando, then here’s one more. Summer is the best season slip into bed naked. Your vagina has been hot and sweaty all day long and sleeping naked gives it a chance to breathe and prevent any sort of irritation.
