Since going to a salon is not an option ATM due to the ongoing lockdown, the need to get rid of pesky facial hair is at an all-time high. And, since threading your own face requires some skills, opting for waxing seems like the more doable option. But before you follow that YouTube tutorial and get into the groove, here’s everything you need to keep in mind before attempting to wax your face at home…
- It’s going to be painful
- Avoid waxing if you have active acne
- You will notice some redness
- Avoid exfoliating your skin right after
- The results will last way longer
It’s going to be painful

While this also depends on your threshold for pain, waxing — especially facial waxing — can be quite painful. This is because it removes hair from the root in one swift motion as opposed to threading, that plucks out individual hair. Rubbing an ice-cube before and after waxing can help reduce the pain to quite an extent.
Avoid waxing if you have active acne

If you have active acne on your face or any sort of redness or sensitivity, then avoid waxing your face until it subsides as this could lead to permanent scarring as well as the spread of bacteria, leading to more breakouts.
You will notice some redness

Since the skin on your face is way thinner than the rest of your body, it’s natural for your skin to feel irritated and look slightly red post a waxing sesh. But worry not, it’s only temporary. Rubbing an ice cube or simply applying a soothing moisturiser will help in calming inflammation and reducing redness.
Avoid exfoliating your skin right after

While exfoliating your face 24-hours prior to waxing will give you much better results, avoid scrubbing your face for up to 48 hours because your skin could still be raw and prone to sensitivity. Scrubbing your face right after waxing could leave behind micro-tears on your skin’s that could take weeks to heal.
The results will last way longer

The best thing about this hair removal method is that your hair grows back much slower as compared to threading or shaving. Depending on the thickness of your hair, waxing will leave your face hair-free for about two to six weeks. Great, isn’t it?
