Oil your hair, make a tight bun, put on moisturiser and there, you are ready. No, not for your weekend beauty sleep, but for the most fun festival ever—Holi! But before the holi celebrations kick-off, there are certain beauty to-dos to check off your list; case in point: pre-holi nail care.

While we’re sure you’re going to go all out to prep your tresses and skin for the festival of colours, we also know that you are totally going to forget to care about your nails, only to regret it later. But fret now, ‘cause we’re going to tell you exactly how you can keep the stubborn holi colours from settling, staining and basically damaging your nails.

1. Cover ‘em up with nail paint

1. Cover ‘em up with nail paint

One day before holi, indulge in a manicure session and paint your nails in a dark hue. Coating your nails with a protective layer of enamel can prevent them from damage. After holi, simply remove the nail paint (and the colour settled in your nails) with a nail polish remover and don’t apply anything after that. Let them breathe and detoxify for a couple of days.

2. Moisturise your nails

2. Moisturise your nails

Before you head out to play Holi, make sure your hands are properly slathered with some cuticle oil and petroleum jelly. You can also use olive oil and massage it onto your hands. This will help prevent the colour from settling into your nail bed and will also help take off the Holi colours easily.

3. Wash your hands

3. Wash your hands

To keep your nails safe and clean, make sure to frequently wash your hands with clean water. This will ensure the colours don’t settle deep into your nails and can be easily taken off post the celebrations.
