The festive season in 2020 was all about family fun, intimate gatherings, with makeup looks kept functional and practical. But if the end of the year is finally calling for a completely fresh-faced moment for you, we have some opinions. We commend your decision to ditch the face paint and go au naturel but think your skin will need some helping hand in looking its best for New Year’s Eve. Here are some tips that will help you step into the new year with your best skin yet.
- 01. Use a gentle skin polisher
- 02. Include a brightening step in your routine
- 03. Sleep with a potion on
- 04. Upgrade your cleansing ritual
- 05. Take care of your skin from the inside out
01. Use a gentle skin polisher
Polishing (or exfoliating) your skin regularly will not only help slough off dead skin cells for a fresh-looking complexion, but it will also clear congestion on your skin and keep pesky breakouts at bay. Use a gentle exfoliant (physical or chemical, whatever suits your skin type) 2-3 times a week to keep your complexion even and soft to touch. Ingredients like lactic acid, glycolic acid and salicylic acid can give quick and noticeable results; they are also so good for your skin in the long run.

02. Include a brightening step in your routine
While we do not recommend changing your entire routine just to fit the goal of going makeup-free on New Year’s Eve, we do suggest adding a few extra steps in your routine. For instance, before you go in with a moisturiser, squeeze in a masking step which focuses on brightening, to get that lovely glow you would otherwise grab a highlighter for. Ingredients like vitamins C and E and niacinamide are known to give you a bright and radiant glow.

03. Sleep with a potion on
If you are trying to get your glow on quickly, your skin will have to put in a night shift as well. Sleep with a nourishing potion that works to improve the overall look and texture of your skin overnight. Make sure to switch up your cotton pillowcases with silk/satin ones to avoid your pillows soaking up the product from your face.
04. Upgrade your cleansing ritual
For us, the best part about makeup is getting to go in with a bunch of highlighters so having to skip that altogether can be a big downer. However, you can boost skin glow from within to make up for that. The key is hydration, hydration and hydration! Given that it is winter and your skin might already be feeling dehydrated and dry, your cleansing routine should include a formula that is hydrating, nourishing and does not strip your skin of its natural moisture. Cream cleansers and cleansing waters come in handy for this purpose, just make sure to always follow up with a moisturiser!
05. Take care of your skin from the inside out
Going makeup-free is not all about how your skin feels on the inside but also about how it looks on the outside. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking at 8 to 10 tall glasses of water every day and try to avoid the temptation of holiday sweeties as much as possible. You will also need to squeeze in those daily sweat sessions to keep your skin looking its best!
