Like dealing with a hangover isn’t bad enough, a night of drinking can affect your skin too. After a fun night, you’re left dealing with dry, dehydrated, patchy and tight skin on your face the next morning. This is because excessive drinking takes all the fluid out of your skin.
FYI: just two drinks can dehydrate your skin. So, you can only imagine the amount of damage a festive season, filled with countless cocktails, can cause. But fret not, if the festivities have left you with dry skin, here are a few tips that’ll help bring your skin back to its optimal health.
- 01. Give your skin time to bounce back
- 02. Rehydrate!
- 03. Moisturise your skin
- 04. Go in with a sheet mask
- 05. Don’t forget your eye area
01. Give your skin time to bounce back
Your skin can take varying amounts of time to bounce back depending on your age. And the amount of time the alcohol takes to leave your system is directly responsible for the damage it will do to your skin. Cut-back (maybe even give up!) on alcoholic beverages for at least a couple of days to allow your skin to bounce back to its original plump self!
There are a couple of ways to rehydrate your skin, and fast! The easiest one is to drink an adequate amount of water. Between 8-10 tall glasses a day. Other ways are to pamper your skin to a humidifier, avoid hot showers (lukewarm water is your best bet), and enrich your diet with lots of fruits and vegetables.
03. Moisturise your skin
There are a couple of really cool ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerine, urea, ceramides, vitamin E, panthenol, etc. that can help rehydrate your skin. Double up on hydrating products that will help moisturise your skin and keep it from looking wrinkly and dull.

04. Go in with a sheet mask
Sheet masks do a great job of hydrating thirsty skin and making it plump in an instant. They are packed with potent nourishing ingredients and are so easy to use. So plop one on to boost your skin’s hydration levels and enjoy the immediate calming effect they provide.
05. Don’t forget your eye area
The skin around your eyes is the thinnest and as such, tends to dehydrate more quickly. Double up on eye cream to prevent fine lines and dark circles from popping up. Trust us when we say that your eyes will be the first to give away your hangover.
