The season of hyperpigmentation and sun damage is here, and it’s not just your facial skin that requires protection. The skin on our lips is extremely thin and delicate and requires equal protection from sun damage.
If not cared for right, summers can leave your lips dry, flaky and tanned. But fret not, we’ve got your back. We’ve got three simple tips that’ll protect your lips from tanning in the summer. Scroll down to check them out.
01. Exfoliate regularly
The summer sun can leave your lips dry and chapped. Exfoliate your lips during the summer will slough off dead skin and smoothen out the lips. Plus, they also reduce tanning and keep your lips looking soft and plump. So get yours hands on a lip scrub or DIY one at home by mixing one teaspoon of honey with two teaspoons of sugar and get scrubbing!
02. Use an SPF-infused lip balm
Your lips are equally prone to sun damage and require adequate sun protection. This is why no summer lip care regimen is ever complete without an SPF-infused lip balm. Not only do these leave your lips perfectly moisturised, but they also protect them from sun damage.

03. Avoid licking your lips
Do you find yourself licking your lips every time they feel dry? You’ve got to stop doing that, RN! Licking your lips can make them feel temporarily hydrated, but in reality, doing so will only turn your lips drier in the long run. Why? Your saliva contains digestive enzymes that wear down the skin on the lips, leaving them more prone to dry air over time. Break this bad habit, and follow the tips mentioned above to keep your lips hydrated and protected from tanning.
