So, you didn’t listen and did it after all. Everyone (including your dermat and your mom) kept telling you to leave that zit alone, but you popped it. We get the frustration and embarrassment that made you pop that pimple (believe us, we’ve all been there, done that) and that’s why we’ve come up with a solution.

A popped pimple can turn into a nasty scar, which you obviously don’t want. So, make sure you treat your popped pimple the right way and deal with the aftermath like an adult (this time). Here is what you need to do after you pop a pimple so you are not left with any scars or swollen skin.

Clean

Clean

First things first; clean the area and make sure the bacteria doesn’t spread all over your face, inviting more zits. Take a cotton swab and carefully clear the pus or blood and then dab a wet cotton pad to clean the area.

Next, wash your face with a foaming cleanser and rinse off. Don’t pick, squeeze or peel the pimple further. If it appears swollen or red, put some ice on it for a while.

Moisturise

Moisturise

You need to keep the area moisturised at all times. After you’ve cleaned the area, apply a moisturiser right away. Use a mild one that doesn’t irritate or aggravate the situation. You can also use aloe vera gel or a moisturiser infused with aloe to help calm the skin and heal the pimple. After this, treat it with an over-the-counter acne spot treatment or witch hazel to reduce the chances of scarring and heal the popped pimple ASAP.

Wear sunscreen

Wear sunscreen

Give the inflammation time to heal and steer clear of exfoliating, bleaching or doing anything to the wounded area that may agitate your skin further. Also, sun exposure can darken the spot, so make sure you apply sunscreen on it every day to save it from the radical damage until it is completely healed.

And, from next time onwards, keep your hands off your face and instead of picking and popping the pimple (and ruining your skin) treat it with the right medication and care.
