Even though we would like to forget most of 2020 and pretend like this year never happened, we need to accept, albeit grudgingly, that not everything was terrible. From learning how to make Dalgona coffee and bake banana bread, we also pampered our skin and hair. And tried a bunch of different makeup looks we’d otherwise never dare to.

So, as we gear up to bid adieu to this year, let’s take a look at the top five makeup trends that helped us step up our makeup game for all those endless Zoom meetings and virtual parties.

This is one makeup trend that most of us have definitely tried quite a few times for Zoom calls. The Zoom makeup trend focussed on doing your makeup in five minutes or less, using minimal and multi-tasking products. The idea was to look presentable and well put-together in an instant.

02. Experimental eyes

With the face mask covering most of our faces, the primary focus was on the eyes. This year, we saw experts, makeup artists and influencers play up the eyes by creating edgier and experimental eye makeup looks that looked like total works of art. We witnessed a lot of colour play, textures and just a casual blurring of standard makeup rules.

03. Fresh, glowing skin

With all the free time on hand, many of us started paying more attention to our skin. From investing in good quality skincare products to whipping up some really nice DIY face mask recipes, we did it all. This led to a lesser need of wearing heavy, full coverage makeup. Allowing us to flaunt healthy, glowing skin from under minimal makeup.

04. Bold brows

Well-defined, groomed brows went out of the window when salon services were suspended during the lockdown. But instead of sobbing over it, beauty enthusiasts saw this as the perfect opportunity to turn bushier, bolder and more natural-looking brows into one of the biggest trends of 2020. Enter: Bold, bushy brows that are totally natural and wearable.

05. Defined, natural eyelashes

With no way to get eyelash extensions, more and more women decided to embrace their natural lashes. The break from all the extension and constant makeup helped strengthen our natural lashes and actually helped them grow longer. Simply applying two coats of mascara to your natural lashes has become the easiest way to sport bigger, brighter eyes this year.
