Fashion and beauty watchdogs — your brains may still be reeling with the epic showcase of couture and makeup that was the first edition of the 2021 Met Gala. From OTT ball gowns to sleek bodysuits, fashion's biggest night did not disappoint, especially when it came to the theme, ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’. When it came to the beauty looks from the 2021 Met Gala, we saw a jaw-dropping efflux of on-theme looks that showcased a modern take on old-world Hollywood, and unique takes on all things American.

While we don't plan to hit the red (beige?) carpet anytime soon, the one thing we can take back and incorporate into our daily lives are the beauty trends we spotted at the Met Gala. So, even though it won't be the same — here are the beauty trends we spotted at the 2021 Met Gala that are going to be big.

From supermodel Lily Aldridge to Mindy Kaling, it seemed like a lot of the attendees opted for a muted look when it came to their face. Playing heavy with brown tones, brown lips, eyeshadow, and bronzed-up faces seemed to be the order of the season. With fall around the corner, this is one beauty trend from the Met Gala we can defo get behind!

02. Bleached brows

We tried to avoid the bleached brows trend that's going around on TikTok and Reels for as long as we could, but now that it's at the Met Gala? Guess we'll have to embrace this edgy, kinda-cool kinda-scary trend after all.

03. Modern liners

Let's be real, could eyeliner ever go out of style? Especially when the theme's all about 'Murica and its fashion? You could go the old-world route like Billie Eilish who sported a simple, classic cat-eye, or take notes from Olivia Rodrigo who gave liners a modern spin with her floating masterpiece. But one thing's for certain — eyeliners are one of the Met's biggest beauty trends.

04. Cropped cuts

Also one of the fall-approved haircuts for the season, the pixie and close-cropped bob hairstyle was everywhere at this year's Met Gala. From model Irina Shayk to Jasmine Tookes, this one seems like the it-girl favourite cut for 2021.

05. Headpiece-galore

Now, we're not saying that you need to go all Grecian goddess à la Iman, but from Rihanna to Lorde, all our faves seemed to be sporting headpieces — and if they're doing it, you know we have to try it.

06. Icy shadow

Whether it was Gigi Hadid's icy blue shadow (which is all the rage RN, ICYMI), or Taylor Hill's iced-out liner, light shades and shimmer are definitely having a moment right now thanks to the nod they make to '90s beauty trends. BRB while we revive our pale blue shadow from the 7th grade.

07. Face glitter

Bedazzled cheekbones, glitter all over the face, crystal motifs — anything goes with this trend! While it's been around for a while now, it has gained more momentum thanks to the VMAs and the Met Gala. Amanda Gorman's bedazzled look is a perfect mood board for this trend!

When we spotted it at NYFW SS'22 which happened last week, we thought that the whole ear-painting vibe was a passing fad. But its just been made legit, thanks to director Eugene Lee Yang, who sported a painted ear that matched his bleeding eye and cheek makeup. It's time to break out the paint, kiddies — we're going ear-painting!
